I thought it was very good and most of the complaints about plot or character development were understandable but they were done on purpose. I think you are either intrigued or annoyed by it. I felt it was a great start to a new trilogy! Without giving anything away here: there are so many people that want to know absolutely everything upfront instead of being patient and waiting for things to properly unfold. It's fun to speculate about certain story elements and characters...I'm still having daily conversations about the movie and what can come next. In my eyes, that shows a movie did it's job. That vagueness works really well staring off this new trilogy. I agree 100%

Well since we shouldn't give away details about exactly why we loved it or hated it, which would spoil it for others, I'll just say this.
I give it a 6.5-7.0 out of 10. Good, but FAR from great. I like all the movies quite a bit, better than a 7 for sure (8's and 9's mostly). Out of the seven movies this one falls last in my book.
My wife, like Mark's, is a huge Sci-Fi fan, loves everything Star Wars, and she is in 100% agreement with me. Entertaining yes, but the movie is so full of very questionable direction decisions, and it totally lacks originality.
During the movie my wife was reminded of a main saying in the new Battlestar Gallactica series. "It's all happened before, and it will all happen again."

I'm now watching Star Trek Into Darkness on TV (on FX HD) and this... this is what was missing from the latest Disney effort, IMHO. The TV movie is engaging with a plot and the sound isn't half bad!

94 percent of us so far say it was great, and it is great, what's the problem? And the next one will be even better.

Just got back from seeing it in 3D. I really didn't want to see it in 3D, but it was very well done. I really liked it. It's right up there with the three originals. The special effects are fantastic. Went with the family and we all liked it. The sound was excellent also. I thought the plot was fine. It's definitely a setup for future films. JJ Abrams really brought this franchise back. To me, it's a 4.5 out of 5. Will own this on blu-Ray.

I liked it, but wasn't blown away. I will give it a second, third, fourth, and one hundredth chance just as I do all Star Wars movies. However, I can't help but feel that this movie in particular had so much less "Star Wars" elements to it.

I'll just jump in to say I loved it. My wife and I have seen it 3 times already and she wants to go see it again soon! For me, it is for right up there behind New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Also have to say it is some of the best 3D I have seen ever. Agree completely the 3D was great!! Though I will say it sucks when you go to an IMAX theater and the whole time your thinking, where's the bass? It sounds too quiet, this would sound so much better at home! Can't wait for the blu Ray!

This was very Star Wars to me. It was predictable just as all sequels are, but it certainly was not boring.

Star Wars is a very trivial movie for people. kylo Ren was the toughest pill to swollow. I do believe I have seen Star Wars more than the average bear. This include all of 1-6. 4 didn't swing big with me either as a young adult, but as I saw 5 and 6 more and more, I gained a deep appreciation for 4. Maybe this will be the case with me.

At the end of the day, it's still just another movie!! My wife and I both enjoyed it and will return for the 3D version tonight just to see it. I felt that this was as much a homecoming for Harrison Ford as it was a Star Wars movie.

The IMAX by me is the opposite. Too much bass to the point of it being a distraction. I thought there were standards that had to be maintained for IMAX?

Saw it last night with my wife, we had both been trying (successfully) not to see or hear too much about it. I've never quite understood wanting to know everything possible about a movie before seeing it the first time, though do understand those who read books and then see adaptations, I like to be surprised. We both liked it quite a bit, though thought that it had a different feel. Went to a large screen with Atmos, no 3D; Atmos helped a little but seemed as if it could have been better balanced. I could have used a little more volume and bass too.
Afterwards I was thinking it was maybe like if the Beatles could put out a new album, so many expectations, so many comparisons, so much has changed in the mean time. Some would love it, others hate it, some would opine how it could have been if Yoko never came along. In the end though it would still be the Beatles, the greatest creative collaboration of all time, and to me this Star Wars is a bit like that.
