Just saw the 3D version after seeing the regular screen on Sunday. For me, the movie wasn't as good the 2nd time, which is unusual for me. Also I was not impressed with the 3D. Some cool effects, yes, but overall, not worth the extra $$.

No worries I felt it was a very good movie and will buy it on blu-ray and looking forward to the next one in a year and a half! Majority of options favored the movie except for this forum, go figure!?

If you are a casual Star Wars fan, this can be considered a nice movie. But if you are a Star Wars nerd, the storyline of this movie and some of the "events" are head scratchers.
My biggest gripes were the light saber fights bc I'm a nerd. To not have a light saber fight by TWO trained fighters is a crime IMHO. The ending was pretty weak.
I'll still watch the sequels but the aura of the Jedi knight that was there in the first trilogy, that was weakened in the second trilogy where they were getting killed left and right by robots has completely been dispelled in this trilogy.
Yes, I'm a Star Wars nerd...gimme some strong memorable characters that made the Star Wars movies so compelling. There is none after this one...

I also love Star Wars and Star Trek and I loved this film. It was entertaining, well paced, and I believe sets the stage for hopefully two more excellent movies. I disagree that there are no memorable characters going forward. Rey, to me is a very compelling character.

Wow!!! I just got done with the new Star Wars in Imax 3d. And I don't know what movie y'all saw but it was the most perfect Star Wars ever! There was not a single iffy moment! It was everything they promised and more. The sound was also excellent. Huge amounts of punch. Excellent music score. The dialogue was also perfectly clear. It is possible that this dialog was mastered for IMAX and didn't do as well in regular theaters. The sets felt real. But most importantly, that sense of wonder that I had watching the original Star Wars was right back. It was FANTASTIC!!!

Walking into the theatre and watching an unknown movie named Star Wars was possibly the most amazing day of my life. I want to know what is going on with Luke. Wait !!!!! Silence !

Loved it, and have seen it twice, once on IMAX again really good theater, and the 2nd w extended family at, well let's just call it a theater. On IMAX at the good theater it was great and made me relive part of my childhood and the sound was great. Felt like it was made by a fan of the originals. The 2nd viewing well the projector and the sound weren't up to par

I was disappointed that the plot was absolutely a retread of episode 4 down to ...... "we have to lower the shield to blow up the death star". Yawn. Hopefully they move forward and write a NEW plot for episode 8. This movie was made for people that have never seen the original episode 4 IMHO.

Have seen them alll and am old enough to have seen A New Hope in the theater originally. Every film can be criticized. This one was a lot of fun.

Yup. I was living in Puerto Rico in the 70's and I was also a little kid. However, back then you had to wait two years to be able to go to the movies and watch the movie after the movie was released in the USA. So basically the first Starts Wars movie that was release int USA in 1977 was not available until 1979 or I think even 1980.

Pretty much a "remake" to capitalize on the Star Wars name, a 2 star action movie vs. the 4 star storyline of the original. So while it was still a fun movie and a box office smash hit, for true Star Wars fans it didn't offer anything in terms of moving the Star Wars story forward. Like the Hobbit by the time the 3rd one comes along, no one will care.

One thing to note, 3d is hit or miss with people. For me, the 3d absolutely added to it. From the large scale of the ships to the dessert landscapes, it was all very good. Also they really hleped the set pieces IMO. The part where they show in the trailer where they are running from these large fireballs looked stunning.
**SPOILER ALERT*** Also two other things that really stood out. The millenium falcon was just FANTASTIC. It had such ab ig part in this movie! It should have been called Star Wars: The Millenium Falcon.
The light saber fights...here's what I really liked. I noted somebody didn't like it which confused me. Here's why. In the prequels the light sabers were done by people that were basically ballerinas. It was completely choreographed. It looked like touch football to me. Tap tap tap. Acobatic jump. Tap tap tap. Leap on to improbably set piece. Repeat.
In this one, it looked much more like the original trilogy where the light saber fights weren't spectacularly graceful. But they were menacing and scary when they did them. And I think the new movie really captured that more "realistic" and scary feel to it. All the graceful acrobatics were not here and I think on purpose. Because that was just flash. It lacked the feel. In this one, I felt like I had just grabbed a light saber, barely knew what the heck to do with it and tried to face off against somebody who did. A scary feeling. That was something I didn't have with the prequels. Oh and I am completely sold on the cross light saber and the new BB8 R2 replacement. Though in the trailers I thought they were the stupidest thing I've seen.

Saw it yesterday with my family. We liked it, including my wife, who is not a Sci-Fi fan.
Yes, it stuck to familiar themes, but precisely because of that it felt to me more connected to the original trilogy than the presequels.
I am sure I am biased by having seen New Hope when it came out, I was twelve back then and it totally blew my mind :-)
Usually I am not drawn emotionally into movies, but it felt "weird" to see the older Han, Leia and Luke. A bit of nostalgia and the realization of how much time has passed.
To add to that, it felt I had come full circle, watching it at the movie theater with my thirteen year old son just like I did with my father all those years ago almost exactly at the same age...
From a "technical" stand point, it was great. The aerial combat scenes were terrific, sort of Top Gun meets Star Wars. The CGI effects blended well with live action and loved the good old blowing up of actual sets :-) Did anybody noticed as the pattern of the lights embedded in the walls of the First Order base is EXACTLY the same as the one in the Death Star??
Sound was okay but not great, but I attribute that in part to the theatre. Not much dynamic slam and bass energy. We'll see how the BD will sound.

That was something I didn't have with the prequels. I agree, think of the duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan in New Hope or Luke and Darth Vader in Return of the Jedi. The first one reflected the fact that Ben was just trying to buy time, the second was just raw, especially at the end, when Luke got really mad... No elegance and choreography in either, just the way it would have probably been in real life, if a life such that in Star Wars could exist :-)
