The brands you mention make good players as does Emotiva. You would be happy with anyone of them I'm sure.

I liked my ERC-2 better than my Oppo 105, fwiw.
But I prefer streaming from a NAS or Tidal better for equal sound with amazing convenience.

Decide if you want a CD player or Bluray/CD player first.

For CD's, I rip to FLAC. But if I want to play an actual CD (no real need, just for old-times sake), I'll use my Oppo BDP-93 as a transport and my Emotiva XMC-1 as the DAC (connect them via Toslink for this purpose)

First, to answer your question. People who have compared the Emotiva to the Oppo and the Cambridge, have preferred the Emotiva. Well not all of them. Decide if you want a CD player or Bluray/CD player first. use a cheap dvd player and run digital to dac of your choice There used to be two major quality points to a CD player/multi-disc player. The first was robustness. Weight of the player, powersupply size and quality, and stability of the disc playback mechanism. The second was the DAC, and its associated circuitry. Now there is a third. Features (streaming services). So let's consider vneal's comment. Is this exclusively for CDs, or is this going to be used for video too? And garbulky's comment really opens a can of worms. If you can find a "cheap" DVD player that has the appropriate robustness, then yes, you can use that to feed whatever DAC satisfies your taste. If you go with a high quality player, then you're guaranteed robustness, and paid a premium for a DAC section that you may, or may not, be satisfied with. And of course like all audio equipment, you don't know how it will sound (in your system) until you hear it. Thankfully, all three of the players you mentioned are available from reputable dealers who specialize in a 30 day trial period. My suggestion is that you allocate some time and effort and find out which one is the right one for you. (And then tell us all about it).

I just noticed that you own an OPPO-95. Talk about a stable and robust platform. That thing is a state of the art tank! If your not happy with the internal DAC (many people aren't) you just need an external DAC. I think that a Emotiva DC-1 or a piece of Schiit, would make you very happy. The sound of either if them is enough different from the OPPO that it is probably what your looking for.

I have an ERC-3 mostly because I preferred it's sound when used with a USP-1 to an Oppo 105 when used with the same USP-1. The bonus was the ERC-3 plus Oppo 103 cost less than an Oppo 105, so I could have the best BD player without compromising on the CD player. Quality CD players don't go out of date, there's no no standard that is going to pop up that makes them obsolete. But quality BD players most certainly do go out of date, technically, often in a fairly short time frame (eg; HDMI 2.0, 4K, 5K, HDCP 2.2, Atmos, DTS-X etc). Replacing a 103 to pick up the latest technology is much more palpable (to my wallet) than replacing a 105. With such a large investment (in a 105) there is a strong urge to keep it in the system past its use by date, hence "missing out" on the upgrades that technology brings. Meanwhile the ERC-3 keeps on playing CD's, beautifully.
Happy New Year Gary

But I prefer the XLR out from my ERC-2 (love slot loaders) and the sound of my XMC-1!!! When the new 4K players come out I will of course look at Oppo again to replace my 103

Thanks for all the input and you all make valid points. I'm trying to make my system all match visually. Because that adds a lot of aww factor to the experience. I like the oppo sound, I also stream music from an iPad using Spotify and Tidal to a peachtree IDAC. I just think that ERC looks cool and assume would have fast load time and robust sound

I have the ERC-3 and an Oppo 103. I actually prefer the ERC-3 for CDs. I wish it played SACDs, but my CD collection just sounds better on the Emotiva kit. That's no slur on the Oppo, because it handles every other function extremely well. (Blu-ray playback, DVD playback, High rez playback from a USB drive.)

One of my "possibilities" was to sell the ERC-3, USP-1 and UMC-200 replace all 3 with an XMC-1 (utilising a 103 digitally connected to the XMC-1). This is based on the logic of the XMC-1 DAC being a similar TI/Burr Brown family implementation to the BigEgo, the sound of which I really like. If you prefer the ERC-2 DAC then there's a chance that I'll prefer the ERC-3 DAC (over the XMC-1 DAC). Happy New Year Gary

Happy New Year Gary Often if i want to change the sound of my digital music ill go between the DACs of my equipment. ive owned the ERC-2 & 3 as well as a DC-1, love them all for different reasons. The XMC-1 does sound alot like my Yamaha 3020 with the Burr Brown DAC. I do switch between the balanced abd unbalanced output of the ERC-2 as well as the XMC-1, I g.uess it all depends on my mood.

I own all three generations of Emotiva players and I think each iteration has improved the sound quality. I really enjoy the slot load but now after one of the ERC-2 tables failed I think I will eventually replace the remainder of slot loaders with ERC-3's.....or 4's!
Edit:
I should add that the ERC-2 with a broken spindle table was replaced under warranty and is back in service playing better than ever. Just one less thing to worry about with a tray loader though.

I've heard the ERC-3 in my system (my uncle brought his over) and can say I was very impressed and wouldn't hesitate buying one if I needed a CD player. I compared it to my Oppo BDP 105 and YBA CD 1a Blue Laser.
IMHO it was better than the 105 but not as good as the YBA. However, it certainly wasn't embarrassed by my YBA which is a compliment to the ERC-3's performance. I liked it very much!
I think if you try the ERC-3 you'll have happy ears!
