Been playing with the new ERC3 tonight. Playback sound is good. Disc spin is a bit noisy. My one concern is the very loud crunchy noise you get when you advance songs. It's loud. Anyone have the same issue? My Marantz was dead quite when you skipped songs. I hope it gets better with use.

I have had a noise issue with my ERC 2. The disc start up for play was very noisy, also around four tracks in during play the disc stuttered and skipped. It actually sounded like the disc was in a grinder there before I got it out of the slot loader. Ended up the spindle motor needed to be replaced. After receiving it back from Emotiva after service was completed I had to send it back as the disc insert slot seemed a bit off, also the noisy playback was still a bit of an issue. Ended up the second time they found the spidle motor table was cracked and they replaced that as well. Since I have had it back it works flawlessly.

Thanks. I have been reading that the ERC-3 has noise issues. It's a shame since this unit is built like a tank and sounds good. Just sounds bad when you advance tracks. I do have a little disc spinning noise too. It's only audible at low volume.

I do have a little disc spinning noise too. It's only audible at low volume. I was among those who reported ERC-3 problems months ago, with loud and noisy operation. After a few months I just couldn't get past it, so I traded it in on some other Emo equipment. I got the impression that most ERC-3 owners had no problems and were very happy, but there were definitely a few of us who had a different outcome. If an ERC-4 appears, I'll probably rejoin the group, but I'm still wary of the ERC-3. Loved the audio but I couldn't muffle the noise sufficiently and I tried.

I own three ERC-3's right now and only one has the noisy playback. Since I listen loud it is a minor issue with me.

I don't have a ERC-3 but my uncle does. I've heard it in my system and in his and never noticed a noise issue at all. I hope you get the problem resolved. I know how frustrating it can be when there is a nagging issue with a component. BTW I think it sounds great.

Mine started making a noise after a while when spinning on almost every disk. I have never moved it from its first position. It's now sitting in a box in my basement, because it was too annoying. I can't imagine that something making noise like that doesn't have some vibrating effect on the sound, which I found really good, but not great. I'm back to a DAC/computer combo I prefer. I had the DC-1, which I also sold.
I really like the Emo amps & preamp, but the digital stuff isnt the level I was looking for.

ematthews, I concur there is a "noise" emitted from the unit when skipping to/from track-to-track. However, the noise I'm referring to is "normal". In fact, the tonality and other characteristics of the sound to some extent exudes a degree of “quality” in-so-far that you should be able to distinguish it among a "something is obviously wrong" sound.
In my opinion if you are within a few feet of the unit your ear can (or at least should) be able to discern a change of track position. Also, when changing tracks there presumably is no audio (music?) that you are otherwise listening to at that moment. Therefore, without any disrespect what-so-ever, who cares about the noise? When the CD is in use (i.e. you are listening) I grant you that you can (or again at least should) hear the platter revolving. Theoretically it would be best if there is no noise generated. However, in this case the sound is rather low and in my case I have to be close (within inches) of the unit to hear it.
