The XPR-1 is an amazing amp. Take comfort in knowing that whatever speakers you upgrade to, whether it be $3k, 5k, 10k, 20k etc., you won't have to worry about upgrading your amp.

This is a good question. The XPR-1s no doubt has double the power. However it does have a class H power supply. Which means after 200 watts of output there is a tiny bump in distortion. ...FWIW, I didn't actually hear this tiny bump when I heard it. It also has less class A power than the gen 2.
But I think you can't lose either way. However if it was me....I wouild go for XPA-1 gen 2. Due to the class A power. And I like its power supply. It's the clearest amp I've heard (so far).

"After 200 watts of output" Gar, check in to the nearest hearing impaired facility asap!! You can pass 200 watts of output quite easily on dynamics. Just for very short periods of time!

They would probably both sound wonderful on those Polks. I also have a pair of the RTi A9s since I got them new in '00 or so. I'm driving them with an XPR 2 and they sound excellent. I'm a big believer in matching combos and I think either of those amps would make them sing sweetly. Scott

It really depends on your future speaker choice and listening requirements. The XPR-1 was extraordinary. It was the high water mark here. It drives just about anything exceptionally well. Very unique amplifier, and one very much coveted by those whom enjoy it. The XPA-1 gen 1 or 2 are to me what everyone should experience at least once in their life. Not quite the grand scale of the XPR, however so special in all that makes it an Emotiva classic now, and forever. I think from an installation of the kind of speakers and listening room I would be in, the XPA-1 is stellar. The extra power and drive of the XPR-1 a bit more so. It IS bigger and heavier too. Also a 20 amp service for it to deliver all its dynamic glory should be used if possible. You can do very well with either. Remember though 5 year warranty comes with new. I think you have 2 great choices.
