Hi all, question, I'm thinking about upgrading the left, center and right speakers, currently have NHT Super One across LCR, with Deftech for surround and surround back, how would the upcoming new Airmotive speakers match with the Deftech? I'm concerned about ribbon tweeters matched with the Deftech tweeters.

Since the new Airmotives aren't available to purchase, I don't believe anyone can give a true answer; however, since you have the ability to audition them at home, I think you would be able to answer the question better than anyone else would be able to.

Theres an argument for matched and it doesn't matter, for HT, close can be good enough.

Yes!,,,,,yes!,,,,,, when budget and opportunity arises! Of course!!! Matching make, model and version. That goes without saying but we don't always have the funding for that.

They are supposed to be the same as the powered ones or close to it, my question is, ribbons and soft dome, can they match ok?

Having owned the Airmotiv 4 in the past I will say that the tweeters of the Airmotiv were "cleaner" and a bit "brighter" than the soft dome tweeters in my Phase Techs. They were a bit "clinical" for my taste but not in a bad way; just in a preference way.

Thanks! Any info on the new Airmotive as to what the power handling and efficiency is?

Ribbons (or AMT, which is a variation on ribbon) and domes do sound different. But as long as your front three match each other, and as long as your surrounds match each other, you will likely not be bothered by the difference. For HT.

Ok, so,I want to upgrade the LCR, I have deftech 800 monitor for surround and surround back, would I be better getting something like Polk tsx250 for the center and Polk tsx250 for the left and right, that would make it all domes, am I right?

I meant Polk tsx220 for left and right.

You are better off not buying Polk, but that's just my opinion. #flamesuiton

If you have a modern AVR or AV pre-pro that does RMC for all channels, matching is not as important as it used to be.

Hi DYohn, what about horned speakers for the LCR, do they match well with domes, or are ribbons a better match for domes, I can always go with Deftech as well but the ones I want (studio55) x 3 are out of reach $$ wise. Thanks.

If your front three speakers are matched it will sound better than if you mix and match them. That said if all of the speakers match they will sound even better.
As far as horns, personally I prefer them. Clear dialogue and wide dispersion with high power handling and higher than usual sensitivity bring a lot to the table. My two cents.

I have no experience with the HSU Gus but from everything I have read about them they are highly rated and sound fantastic. I am a Klipsch fan myself but there are plenty of similarities.

Thanks, I'm leaning on hsuresearch for now on the LCR, and keep the Deftech 800 for surround and surround back.
