Hey everyone, I'm going to call Emotiva on Monday but thought I would see if any Fusion 8100 owners here on the lounge had or are having the same issues I am just in case I'm an idiot and am doing something wrong which is highly unlikely because I am an audio god but hey . So I unhooked the two HDMI cables from my 7020 and connected them to my 8100 and disconnected the speaker cables from my XPA-5 and connected them up to the 8100 as well, earlier today I played a CD through my Oppo 103 with no issue over the HDMI cable but later on I thought I would throw a movie on and check out the audio quality in 5 channel and a few minutes in the 8100 lost it's HDMI sync and the picture and sound drop, and would come back every 20 seconds or so only to drop out again, so to rule out the Oppo I switched inputs to my Mac Mini and everything was good until I opened iTunes and started playing some music, as soon as the music started it once again dropped the HDMI connection ? I'm at a loss on why this is happening, it was playing FM radio without a hitch and then a CD with no issues but as soon as you try and run video and audio at the same time over HDMI bam it kicks out. Chad

So little update on the 8100, last night while sitting at my computer I could hear my speakers crackling every once and a while, the fusion was powered on but not playing anything so I went over to it and using the rotary dial on the front I changed the input to Tuner but noticed I had no sound and that also caused the whole unit to lock up and none of the front buttons would respond to being pressed. Did a shutdown and turned it back on and once again choose Tuner to just listen to some FM radio but like earlier when nothing was playing I was still getting crackling noises about every 20 seconds or so, looking like it's gonna have to go in for warranty work such a shame to as the 8100 is in pristine condition and literally looks like it has just been removed from the box but something inside isn't working as it should. Sincerely, a grumpy Chad

I had to hook up my 8100 to my UPA-500 when the UMC-200 caps failed a few months ago. I just used the 8100 as a pre-pro and moved the five HDMI cables (4 in one out) to the 8100 as well as the RCAs that go to the UPA-500.
No problems at all (except the Harmony 880 remote...lol).
Sent the UMC-200 to Calgary and took two+ weeks which was not too bad, unfortunately they (Calgary) does not keep you informed at all and they shipped the UMC-200 back no signature required...found it on the front steps.
So, the 8100 should just be a simple swap and there shouldn't be any HDMI issues. Does the 8100 have the "current" firmware?

Yeah .54 is the firmware, I might try and roll it back to .52 but I have zero sound from the 8100 now as in the tuner won't outpu audio neither the HDMI or Digital Coaxial

Chad, sorry to hear about your trouble. I got my Fusion 8100 in December of 2014, so it is about as old (or as new ...) as yours. Other then some flickering when switching HDMI inputs, never had the sort of issues you are having. On the other hand, I did have a strange issue with the volume control of Zone 2 just out of the box. It would jump to full volume as soon as I increased Zone 2 volume one click above zero. Almost blew a pair of speakers when I tried Zone 2 with the internal amps, as my configuration is 5.1. It did the same picking the signal out of the pre-outs of Zone 2. I would have never found out if, me being me, I had not tried all of the 8100 functions, even those that I knew I would not use... For some reason I had a hunch that it might have been a firmware issue. I got firmware version .52 from Emotiva (the unit came with .54, but back then Tech Support did not have the files yet), re-flashed the firmware and everything got fixed. Since it appears that you have the files at least for .52, I would give re-flashing a try. If it turns out to be a hardware issue and you have to send the 8100 for service, Emotiva can easily flash .54 on it again once they fix it. Good luck and keep us posted!

I had a heck of a time getting a stable Fusion 8100. It's a long, ugly story but ultimately I did get a working unit. The problematic units I had seemed to all be due to a power supply failure. Some were diagnosed with cap failures but I believe the power supply was killing the caps. Below were some of my issues:
- No sound or video at times - Volume played at a constant, distorted level despite volume level

Somehow my last post entered before I was finished. More symptoms below:
- Unit would make loud pop when changing options menu from AMPLIFIER to TV
I would have to pull out a copy of the issues I sent in to Emotiva for the complete list. But if you are experiencing any of these symptoms it may be the reserve power supply. Hopefully I can save someone some time and frustration.

Corey Talked with Emotiva today and I have an RMA # and he has sent me some firmware and instructions as did the seller but he has an even earlier version he wants me to try to see if it rectifies any of my issues, I have a coworker who purchased the Fusion from my recommendation and his has been working perfect from day one, some have the luck and some don't haha. Chad,
I would be curious to know if when you send it to Calgary, the service guys are any more helpful/communicative that when I sent mine back two months or so ago. Also curious if they send it back no signature required as the did mine.
It was cheaper from Winnipeg to ship FedEx than any other method...lol

Keep us posted on the issue/resolution. I too am a business (CPC) member, but FedEx was a little cheaper including full value insurance...what is an 8100 worth now for insurance purposes? lol

Sad...and so many people have had issues with the 8100 and the UMC-200.

Issues here too. Just sent it back for warranty work. Every time I turned it on it just popped and shut down. Thinking of having it repaired and selling it.(hopefully all goes well for new owner but it still has 4 years left on warranty.)Seems to be a problematic unit for a lot of people. I love it too which sucks but now I have a system that is unusable until I get a replacement.

Well as most things you always hear of the bad but not the good, for the amount of units sold I'd have to assume the majority work just fine and we have the unlucky ones like us haha, waiting to hear back from Grayson and then I will send mine out for repair, customer service has always been great for me so hopefully that doesn't change.

I'm sure that is the case. Grayson is great to work with and their customer service is phenomenal. I have all Emotiva gear this is the only unit giving me a problem.

I am going through all the same problems with my Fusion 8100. I tried the 54 firmware and experienced the same problems. My Fusion is now on its way to Emotiva for repair. Grayson has been a huge help.

Grayson has been a huge help. Mine is running .54 but was suggested to roll back to .52 but that failed and now it just shows "Upgrade Main CPU" ? not sure if that menas hardware or software haha
