Yowsah! Guess this is Keith's s**t happens scenario. Good luck with straightening this out with UPS. Not my problem. A call to Emotiva's EXCELLENT Customer Service (along with an emailed picture of the box) resulted in my refusing delivery of the package; thus UPS paid for the trip back AND I was sent a replacement unit. Crushed box on one end is a result of the box being dropped from a good height. If it had been squeezed in a conveyor system it would have crushing along the entire length. The box was delayed one day. The message they gave me was that it missed the truck. This is code for: "your box fell off the conveyor system and no one noticed".

I'm afraid that's a sort of limitation of how DSD works. It's virtually impossible to do digital processing (like bass management) on actual DSD content without converting it to PCM first. Therefore, in order to combine the two, you would either have to convert the DSD to PCM in order to do the bass management, or do the bass management in analog after it's converted to analog. (And, in order to do analog bass management with surround sound in the XMC-1, you would have ended up sacrificing flexibility - it would take a lot of circuitry to let you pick different crossover points for different speakers and stuff like that in analog - and would have been a drag on the audio performance.) So, if you're going to do digital bass management on a DSD signal, then you're really going to have to convert it to PCM first. And, if you're going to do that anyway, then if your player is something like an Oppo, all you have to do is to set your player to output DSD as PCM. Which works out exactly the same as if the XMC-1 did the conversion, and lets you use all the bass management and other features in the XMC-1. I have been very happy with my XMC-1 overall. I only wish you could have bass management for SACD DSD files. Not having a subwoofer active when decoding DSD files leaves a lot out of the music experience.

Looks about right... I hate UPS! Every package I get from them looks like it fell out of the truck. Our UPS driver is a nut bag.

Let be known Emotiva Customer Support is superb, second to none in my opinion!! It's not my place to divulge exactly how Emotiva has taken care of this situation but suffice it to say they have gone way above and beyond the call of duty. I'm impressed. One individual suggested I open the XMC-1 to check for loose ribbon cables from shipping, turns out this was the issue with the second one received. I feel bad not taking this suggestion now, it would have save a lot of trouble and expense for all concerned. Live and learn. Apologies for not investigating further. New XMC-1 on the way. My maxim is "judge me not by my lack of errors, but how I handle them should they occur." Correct, if CS gets under my skin or do not fallow through 9 times out of ten I'm gone. Never has been the case with Emotiva though, I've had one issue with an XPA-1 mono, I purchased it use from a local Emotiva member and from from the response of the CS lady that amp must have gone around if you get my Griff! That didn't matter the warranty was under my name NOW, and she belong to me and only me now, they took care of me and all was right again. Nice to see you around these part Jeff, this forum just got a little bit more interesting with all your know how. Welcome Dan.

Our UPS driver is a nut bag. David do you think your UPS driver is related to the @chuckienut Nuts ? Hmmmm, I haven't thought about that. Definitely no resemblance and the UPS guy doesn't look like he would own audio gear unless you include mp3 player.

Quick followup on the XMC-1.
Three times is a charm. Received my 3rd XMC-1 on Friday and it is working perfect out of the box with no issues what so ever that I can determine. And more importantly it performs very well, which will be used to replace my XSP-1 and DC-1. More later if interested but by now there has been enough reviews of this device its unlikely I can contribute much more of interest or anything new.
Thanks Emotiva for the great customer service!

So the screen blue matches the buttons and knobs, there are no pops and/or clicks, and it always plays the first note of songs. Excellent!
