I have an XMC-1 being used with my current Samsung 55" LED tv. I want to get a new LG 55" OLED curved screen 4K tv. I'm not so much desiring the 4K aspect as much as the superb picture quality on OLED.
What are the ramifications as far as XMC-1 compatibility, HDMI cabling, etc., with a change like this?

For up to 1080p the video will pass through without any difficulties. The XMC will also pass 4K but is not HDCP 2.2 so will not pass protected 4K material. Any decent quality Hi-Speed HDMI cable should work fine.

From what I've heard with new tv tech, OLED combined with HDR has way more wow factor than the 4K everyone is pushing.

I'm holding out on the OLED upgrade until Panasonic gets more into the game. The model shown at CES looks amazing and Panasonic still outdoes LG on picture quality even though LG supplies Panasonic with the panels.

Is there any date set for when Emotiva will start selling the updated HDMI boards?

You won't absolutely need to do much of anything until 4K blurays come out. For everything else, the TV streams it directly. Not like there is streaming 4k with full HD audio like blurays.

You might want to read CNET's review of LG55EG9600 series where HDR and wide color gamut capability of this model are discussed www.cnet.com/products/lg-eg9600/ as this model won't support HDR from 4K Blu-ray (but will support streaming with HDR after an update that should have happened late 2015 apparently according to the review).

I have a LG 55" OLED, and the XMC-1.
Depending upon your source, depends on the impact on the signal via the XMC-1.
For normal DirecTv, the 1080p signal routes via the XMC-1 with no PROBLEM!! Picture is beautiful. (This is 1080i)
OPPO 93 to XMX-1 to OLED is better than any other signal available. Both 1080P and 1080P 3D are exceptional. I have a hard time expecting a native 4K signal to be better that this.
I also have the new DirecTv Genie 4K unit. This provides a 4K60 signal, and this does not go via the XMC-1. I still have the Audio going to the XMC-1, but the video is via a new HDMI 2.2 Cable (Medial Bridge at Amazon- around $30 for 30 feet.) 2.2 is needed for 4K60. This connection goes into a separate HDMI input on the LG TV. I have one for normal DirecTv/OPPO/Etc to the TV via the XMC-1. Use a 2nd for the 4K input. It took awhile to get the DirecTv 4K Genie, and there are still some teething problems, in respect to which resolution the unit select to send to the TV (this was a problem with their equipment before as well).
I also have a preorder on a Samsung 4K Blu Ray player due March 1, and then can compare the 1080p Blu Ray with upconversion to the 4K Blu Ray native on the OLED.
One thing I would recommend you try is the 1080P 3D Blu Ray via the XMC-1 and to the OLED TV. This actually works on the OLED, and does not require active glasses or look like it is out of focus the entire time. I have gone back and watched several 3D Blu Ray's again after having the OLED, and they are very enjoyable.
I made the mistake of going to the theater to see the NEW Star Wars after having the OLED TV for a while. The Theater screen was horrible in comparison.
I also have a computer monitor (Visio 43" 4K) , with multiple dimming segments, and the OLED still outshines the Visio !! 4K to 4K, same sources.

So I got the 55" flat LG OLED 3D 4K UHD tv. The picture is just unbelievable. I just swapped it in for the Samsung LED I had there and initially everything works great, even 3D blu rays look incredible. I bought a small Sony 4K upscaling 3D blu ray player that works quite well.
I got my OLED tv at Best Buy and opened a BB Credit card acct, so as the initial purchase I got 10% in rewards dollars! I spent $100 of those on a new Roku 4 which does 4K streaming. I hooked that up directly to the tv's HDMI 3 port since the XMC won't pass 4K protected content. I still need to get a couple fiber optic audio cables so I can still get surround sound audio while using the Roku and will do the same hookup with the 4K upscaling blu ray player. I just wish the XMC-1 has a 4K video board so I could get everything back to all thru the XMC-1 without having to change tv inputs.
The TV has all sorts of streaming services built in, the blu ray does too and the Roku of course. Kind of overkill to have so many ways to stream the same stuff.
So has Emotiva said yet when they plan on offering a 4K video board upgrade, and what it might cost?

So has Emotiva said yet when they plan on offering a 4K video board upgrade, and what it might cost? They announced one a few months back, and as I recall it is supposed to show up in March or so. It's about $300 AND only has ability to handle 1 4k/2.2 input. Many want more, and Emotiva came back saying they were working on one handling more 4k/2.2 inputs to be available by the end of the year. No details on that were shared. PS - they announced it on the December 2015 podcast. Lots of discussion on features/price on the processor thread after that. Mark

Those will work until the battery goes down. I have four of those now. I found that not only were they able to send zeroes, and ones, but could even send twos! I can't want for the new version next year which is rumoured to handle up to five.
