Quote {got it. So when you offer a upgrade component example the HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 do you build all new units with the upgraded components or is it still an upgrade ?} When it comes out it will be in the new units. The upgrade is a service for us who already have the current XMC-1 okay got it, i've made my decision. I've decided that i'll go with the XMC-1

You need to keep in mind what your future plan is. You have a 1 good amp (UPA 200). 2 channels covered. A 3 channel amp will get you 5 channels where as an XPA 2 will leave you short for a 5.1 surround system. The XPA 2 is a better and more powerful amp than the UPA 200. That may work for quite sometime and be all you need as you figure your system out.

I think it's audio, going off that approach my next thought was will the xpa 2 make a bigger impact on the audio, without hearing the difference it's hard to tell, but i love all the reviews i've read so i'm making a leap of faith. then use the UPA 200 to Bi amp the towers. and worry about the surrounds later...........Thoughts please....

The XPA 2 will have more power and probably better control of the speakers especially at loud levels. XPA 2 now, mono amp (something to keep up with XPA 2)for future center and the UPA 200 for surrounds.

Many Center speakers are horizontal MTM (Mid-Tweeter-Mid). Because the drivers are arranged horizontal, they're typically too wide to provide a good narrow focused center image between the Left + Right speakers, i.e. they usually just "smear" the center image, even though for movies they do improve clarity of the actors' vocals if the Left + Right speakers are lacking in this particular area of the sound. But with a good stereo pair of tower speakers placed strategically in a well acoustically treated room the vocals are already perfect without the addition of a Center speaker. This is because vocal clarity and articulation play an essential part in stereo music.
In fact, because the center speaker usually has to be placed either above or below the TV / screen (that is, unless you are using an acoustically transparent projection screen with all three Front speakers placed behind it), you might actually find that adding a center speaker will *degrade* the surround sound of movies if you are sitting directly in the sweet spot (i.e. if your listening position and your Left + Right speakers form an equilateral triangle). Furthermore, even if the Center speaker is identical to (and placed at the same height as) the Left + Right speakers, the acoustic interactions between this Center speaker and the side walls are completely different from the interactions between *any* of the other speakers and these side walls. As a result, I had decided to just add a pair of Airmotiv 5 powered studio monitors as (nearfield) surrounds. My UMC-200 is set up to compensate for the shorter distance between my surrounds and my listening position compared to the longer distance between my fronts and my listening position. In addition, placing my surrounds closer to my listening position moves them farther away from my side walls, thereby decreasing unwanted acoustic interactions between my surrounds and side walls. Finally, because they are powered speakers, my surrounds do not require another separate power amp.
What works for me might not necessarily work for others, and I am ~80% stereo music, 20% movies. But I am really very fond of my current setup in spite of the fact my upgrade from stereo to surround sound has costed only $998 (bar international shipping, duty fee, added tax, and some professional shielded RCA cables).

I would pick up a used XMC-1 for ~$1500 and cover the front, side and ceiling with owens corning 703 preferably 4" thick using the money you save. That and Dirac will give you an excellent sounding system. Most of my equipment is used Emotiva gear, they are a very good company and have always transferred ownership and warranty for me. hey how does one adjust mids treble bass on the xsp-1?

Just make sure the owner you buy the gear from contacts Emotiva and transfers the warranty to your name after the sale.
