I'm trying to understand the outputs for Zone 2. I have it set to go out to separate amp. When I connect the separate amp to the line out I'm wondering if I am suppose to connect it to Mix or Out and what is the Rec for - to record the source? Also I'm wondering if the zone output is full range? my zone 2 speakers are small and I'm worried that syncing output from zone1 with zone2 will cause my speakers to distort because they can't handle the bass. If so has anyone tried an inline high pass filter or know a way to configure an eq on zone2? Thanks!

I don't think there is any way to send anything other than full range audio to zone 2 since that would involve the DSP. Same reason it cannot send digital content to the zones. If you have an amp with volume or gain control you shouldn't have a problem. You didn't post which Sherbourn you have and there are several models. I'm familiar with the 7030 but not the others. With the 7030 the volume for each zone can be independently adjusted.

With the 7030 the volume for each zone can be independently adjusted. It's the SR-120 receiver I have. The primary question I have is what is the difference between the mix outputs vs the zone output? Does Mix give me a 2 channel mix of what I'm playing in zone 1 or can the zone2 out also do that but allow me to switch analog inputs. Also does the fact that I have a Mix out on Zone 2 and an Out as well mean that Out does not provide a mix - only the Mix out does? Zone 2 does have independent volume but if I want to play it loud it would help to filter out the low frequencies - for example when I'm syncing to zone 1. Thanks! I know I can probably figure this out by just experimenting but I'm hoping to save myself some time if someone might know already

In general (guessing about the model).... No EQ on Zone 2.... Use the Zone 2 output.... In-line high pass filter "like the ones from H-Labs" should work fine (although I think I'd rather play them more quietly than simply chop off the bass) I'm trying to understand the outputs for Zone 2. I have it set to go out to separate amp. When I connect the separate amp to the line out I'm wondering if I am suppose to connect it to Mix or Out and what is the Rec for - to record the source? If so has anyone tried an inline high pass filter or know a way to configure an eq on zone2? Thanks!

I have it connected to Zone right now (the middle ones). I'm assuming Rec on the right allows me to record zone2 playback. What does Mix (on the left) do?

Sounds like its time to get familiar with your owner's manual. I suspect it will tell you the REC output is for L/R audio from whatever source is playing in zone one (main) and most likely only from analog sources due to HDCP issues. If you look at page 12 in the manual it gives a very good explanation of the mix output. When all else fails - RTFM!

I think what you're looking at is the "Extra Outputs" section, which includes the Mix Out, the Record Out, and the Zone Out... I'm pretty sure none of the Sherbourn units I've used had separate Record Out and Mix Out for the Main Zone and Zone 2. In general (guessing about the model).... No EQ on Zone 2.... Use the Zone 2 output.... In-line high pass filter "like the ones from H-Labs" should work fine (although I think I'd rather play them more quietly than simply chop off the bass) Thanks for the advice. Well I did some playing around and what I found is that Mix gives a steady mix out of Zone 2 and no ability to change input or volume on Zone 2. Using Mix - the volume is the adjusted using the main volume.
The Zone out gives input selection and volume contol.
The Rec gives just output of what is playing in Zone2 presumably to record it.
I'm going to stay with Zone out as that gives me the control I want.
Hope this information helps someone else out.
