Hi all I experience around a 10db drop in output when I select the Dirac preset. Overall it sounds better than preset 1 or2 with NO EQ, of course, but I can't drive my speakers loud enough on the Dirac preset. Tried going to XLRS ( $1,200 down the drain) same result. I have run the setup routine more than once, followed the instructions, still the same. The preamp runs out of gas about -20 db or so. What am I doing wrong? Also, I have two identical passive subs. According to how I read the manual, they do not have to be connected both to the left channel to run in mono, is this right?

Turn off Dirac, treat room, equalize by ear, enjoy.

Bump up the trims.. If you connect the subs to right and left outputs and run dual mono, expect phase issues.. Dirac can't get phase and delays correct.

Turn off Dirac, treat room, equalize by ear, enjoy. I set up my TT in this manner, and my ear set the XMC-1 almost identical to Dirac, nut I do prefer my ear setting. Edit; i dont use a sub when spinning vinyl, very rarely when playing digital either.

Oh yeah, sell subs. A bass guitar's lowest fundamental is 39hz.

Wait, you spent $1200 on XLR cables?!!

Is this a music or movie setup ? What other gear is being used in the signal chain ?

I always set level trims with my dB meter after running Dirac.

I use the system for music and movies. Lotsa content below 39 hz. Even a double bass can go to 31hz. Other equipment is Oppo BDP83SE and Sunfire amps. Cables are Zen Wows. Turning up the trims doesn't help, the preamp stops outputting more around -20db.

This means that your room has some serious Problems and DIRAC has to make massive adjustments. Measure with REW with DIRAC turned off and publish the frequency Response and waterfall Diagramm here. Then it will be possible to give some useful advice.

It's hard to tell what's wrong, but what you are experiencing is unusual...a 10 db drop. I can't say what is wrong for sure, but I have heard that if DIRAC needs to boost a part of your spectrum too much, it will not do so to avoid over-driving your amps/speakers. Instead, it will "throttle back" everything so it can get to a reasonable shot at the target curve without over-driving anything. I suggest you look at the before/after DIRAC data to look for signs of that. It may reveal a problem you can fix outside DIRAC that will allow DIRAC to do what it needs to once the other issue is corrected. PS...what bolle said...he and I are guiding you down the same path! The XMC-1 replaced an Audio Control Diva and a Sunfire preamp. The previous EQ was done by me with the Diva's noise generator and a Rane RTA. The Sunfire/Audio control setup had no problem driving the system hard enough. The speakers and amps have not changed. The before/after graphs in Dirac right before you tell it to create filters are not radically different, no huge need for boost at any frequencies.

DIRAC handles the data differently than other approaches. Perhaps if you post the graphs, either what DIRAC shows or REW as bolle suggests, someone will see something of importance. Otherwise, folks here will just be speculating. Mark

The closer you go to 0, the louder it'll be. Also, make sure you have the latest firmware as they raised the volume of the Dirac preset with v3.1.

I'm not sure what you mean by close to 0 db. Are you talking about the input sensitivity during setup? The instructions say to set the background noise to -24 using the input sensitivity slider, and the channel output to -12 using the output volume slider.........no?

Can you post the graph for your front left and right speakers so we can see what Dirac is doing?
