I'm glad the DC-1 worked for me. To my surprise it really shined with a powerful amp. The difference between the UPA-2 and my XPA-1 with the DC-1 was IMPRESSIVE. If you haven't already connect it with XLR cables. The mid range and treble bumped up in transparency and the kind of detail it produced was more than with the UPA-2. I could hear the dimensions of the room of the recording better.
As for speakers there are a lot of good speakers out there. Your space requirement makes it a little difficult but I'm sure you'll find a good one. Try something other than Klipsch. There's plenty of good stuff out there. Tekton Designs have excellent choices.

Now that you mentioned it...they sell Pendragon monitors. They are pendragons but in bookshelf form! lvdude had some and loved them a lot. www.tektondesign.com/pendragontheater.html(they are the Pendragon "surrounds" but yeah they are just as good. )

Small room? KEF LS50s with a sub. 9'x15', not even big enough for a walk in closet. Speakers are in the corners of the 9' wall. I would really like to keep it just a 2 channel set up, if possible.

In that case, some speakers with more bass than the KEF LS50s may be appropriate. Lots of good choices out there at all price ranges. High on my list would be the ELAC speakers designed by Andrew Jones. Not only inexpensive, but (from what I read) sonics WAY above their price. The two below, $279 / pair and $759 / pair.

Eric built me custom Pendragon Monitors 12" W x 8" Deep x 18" Tall as surrounds and they sound awesome. Have you looked at the new Lore Impulse? It appears to be the smaller single 10" brother of the Pendragon and I am betting it sounds phenomenal., $1000 a pair www.tektondesign.com/impulse.html
