I think this poll speaks for itself. With the Atmos/DTS:X/Auro discussions going on over the last 6 months, I was just curious about more details as to who is actually answering the questions here on this forum. Many people have voiced their feelings / opinions etc, but I thought a poll might help to convey some numbers to it. Like are we mostly 2 channel, theater, or both etc?
Strictly for entertainment purposes.
Thanks for participating.
Cheers ----- Bonzo

I spend more time using my system for movies than I do music, but I actually enjoy 2 channel a lot more. I just tore down my 2 channel room, but could easily use the main system for some good old stereo listening.
I do like Atmos and am a fan of it. I could put it in, but the XMC-1 doesn't currently support it so it would require a new processor. It would also require me to get into the attic and run wires. I have been busy rearranging my attic for storage so I feel like getting up there any more than I absolutely have to. I am content with what I have, but also voted I'm just too lazy. I have been meaning to run a Cat6 to the bedroom for 6 months and just have never got around to doing it.

I use my 5.1 lounge room system, not just for movies but for everything, FTA TV, Netflix, Stan, Cable, Bluray etc. If we are watching anything on the panel in the lounge room the systems is on. For 2.1 stereo music I switch over from the UMC-200 to the XSP-1 as the pre amp, uses the XPA-1L's (FL & FR) and the XPA-100 (Sub) as for 5.1.

Two seperate rooms, working on multipurpose and a seperate theater only room. I do far less theater so if I could sell all of that gear, I most likely would but Im not going to take a bath over it. So the Mrs has her own dedicated theater, she is 10/90 music/theater, the exact opposite of myself. But she really loves quality sound. Quick story, Mrs walks into the cave and states" so you bought a new record today!! " I told her nope, youve just gotten to the point where you can distinguish the difference between analog/digital SS and analog/digital tube sound!! Dont you think we should "Invest" in tubes baby? ,,,,,,hello? Hunny? Baby? Hello? Where did ya go? She loved the tube sound but wont even discuss it at the moment!! Sad for me!! work in progress! I Think this one applies to many of us. Mostly a two channel vinyl rules kind of guy but I've never turned my nose up to most any setup. so how do I vote?? Answer for both systems or just the one most important to me,,,,,,,,and not the Mrs.

My system is 70% music - 30% movies. For the past two years, I have been contemplating selling all my gear and going to a much higher end 2.0 system. As I get older, the 5.1 surround setup isn't as important as 2-channel stereo music listening.

The more common Aussie tourist spots in the US not so much, but in some of the out of the way places the accent amuses the locals. I remember one time in a bar somewhere between Carson City and Sacramento that I didn't buy a drink all night, all I had to do was talk Aussie. Had a hang over for days. Must drop in and pay you a visit next trip, you located around where boomzilla lives? Cheers Gary

I use the 5 channel setup so seldom that I really should sell it all. 2.0 works just great for me 99% of the time. I've tried using several preamp-processors and AVR's to satisfy my 2 channel urges but they just never seem as 'clean' sounding as a dedicated 2 channel preamp and a decent amplifier. The Parasound has a very nice clean sound. The only thing missing on it IMO is a lack of any volume indicator other than the rotating analog volume control. Otherwise its perfect for my needs.

Will surely do. One of the options for the next tip was to start in New Orleans and follow the Mississippi. Hop across to Memphis and then Nashville, drop in for Emofest (which now seems unlikely). Well Aussie is a whole lot closer to English than American is But I'm fluent in all three languages Cheers Gary

When the daughter finishes high school (In just over 4 years), I'll be moving and building a new house. This house will have a dedicated audio/video room at which time I'll add a home theater setup (Most likely 5.1 or 7.1) with music as the primary focus.

Main system is the big one with the big panel. Second system is 2.1 in my bedroom- it also powers two sets of remote speakers, one set in my shower the other is a future outside my bedroom on the privacy deck.
Third system is the boy's. He is also 2.1 at this time. Eventually his will change to 5.1 when he wants his own tv.
I have no interest in front high for the moment. I don't think there is enough content to merit it at this point. That may change and when it does, I will add more amplification channels. I have already hoarded away enough speakers to pull off a 9.1 in the big room if it becomes feasible.

My primary system is 3.1 and a bit 2 channel centric. However, I have an inexpensive 5.1 system in the bedroom ($500 of gear all via Craigslist) and an 8 year old panel which is enjoyable.
Installing surrounds would require a ton of drywall patching for speaker cable/power cables and, in the end, the odd shape of the room would make even speaker placement difficult.

While I use my systems more for video than audio, I am pickier about my audio. When I listen to music, I listen more critically. And I have a combined system and a separate system. Different locations in the house. As for height channels, I want to see where the dust settles before I bother. I am happy with my surround now and not in a hurry to change.
