I am in the market for a DAC that had multiple inputs like my XDA-2 and would rather not spend $500 on a DC-1. I was kind of expecting it to be introduced with the BasX line that happened last couple of weeks. Any ideas or hints when we can expect a new DAC like the XDA-2 ? Matt

Starting to look into a used DC-1 but still would like to stay around $300 for the DAC. I think a used one would run around $375 to $425. I was researching on the net and found Maverick Audio out of China that has a tube output for $260 plus shipping, but can find few reviews on Company. Anyone heard of them ?

My advice is spend the money to get something you will be happy with, otherwise you're always going to be wishing you had something else. Like for example, if you had gone "budget" instead of your PrimaLuna, you'd be eyeing that PrimaLuna unit all the time and not enjoying whatever it was you got instead. For not that much more than $300 you can get a DC-1 and you'll have peace of mind. An alternative you might check out is a Teac that Massdrop is offering right now for $319: www.massdrop.com/buy/teac-ud-301-balanced-dac-amp

I've directly compared the DC-1 in detail to Cambridge Audio, the Oppo 105, the BMC puredac, the NAD M51 and the PSAudio Perfectwave II.
It wasn't until I got to the PS Audio and my current Grace m920 that I thought the DC-1 was bested.
If on a budget, get the DC-1. No question.

Yeah the DC-1. But if its for like a non critical system like say the bedroom, you can go for a cheaper unit. For isntance the XDA-1 sells for ridiculous prices.. You can get them for about $140.

Some savings need to accumulate first but I heard the DirectStream a few weeks ago and it's remarkable. I may have to settle for the NewWave DSD but it's incredible as well.

Agree with Nick -- 6k is more than my whole system costs in the "music room ". DC-1 looks better and better. Will save up some more money for a DC-1 used or new one when it goes on sale. Thanks for all the good advice. Matt

In the 6 large arena, why not a look at the Yggy?

Thanks for all the good advice. Matt The DC-1 really shines with the XPA-1 gen 2 monoblocks. It's like it was built for it imo.
