We disagree, Bill. Time will prove one or the other of us right. Until then...

My, aren't we sensitive about whom I may have offended? Yes, the salesmen at Best Buy lied to me, but Tidal doesn't get off the hook that easily. Although they don't outright state that their service can replace your personal library, they certainly imply that. And even the implication is false. Why? Well that involves a bit of analysis of Tidal's intent & business plan. Tidal WANTS to be the music provider of choice to the lion's share of music consumers. But to get to that position, several things must occur (none of which quite have, yet): I would not say I am sensitive about who you offend. I do think it's wrong for anyone to be posting incorrect information on a forum, especially a member with nearly 9000 posts. People search for information about products on line, and if they find your (incorrect) information and think, "wow, this guy has 9000 posts, he likely knows what he's talking about". They will be misled, just as BestBuy misled you (and you are kind of mad at them, aren't you?). First you said Tidal lied, and in truth it was BestBuy hawking a product to get you to buy it. Now, you said Tidal "implies" they can replace your music library. I looked all over and I cannot find any such claims from Tidal. Here is what is on their website: Seems quite factual and free from advertising hype to me. I have read reviews of Tidal by other people who claim it can replace your music library, but I have never seen that from Tidal. And...as to Tidal wanting to be the music provider of choice...what's wrong with that? If I were in the music provider business, I would want to be. I clearly get you do not like Tidal. That's fine. It's not for everyone. Just don't make stuff up about them that is untrue. When you do that, it also shed doubt on your reviews of gear, quite frankly. Peace... Mark

Anyone who reads ANYTHING I write and thinks "he likely knows what he's talking about," obviously doesn't know me. My tagline says it succinctly.
I post my impressions and opinions. Period.
The earlier Tidal ads, as I remember, did list one of their benefits as the ability to replace your existing library, but since I can't find a copy of that (older) ad, it's possible that my memory plays me wrong.
I have no problem with Tidal (or any other business) aspiring to be the dominant content provider. I merely listed some honest opinions on why it would be a difficult goal for them to achieve.
I clearly get that you like Tidal. That's fine. But when you attack those who don't, it sheds doubts on your credibility, quite frankly.
Peace...

Not attacking at all. If you can find those early claims, I will stand corrected. I never saw anything like that from Tidal. You clearly took that away from BestBuy.
Peace,
Mark

I use Tidal as a means to augment my collection and there's no better way to integrate the two than Roon. For example, I own 3 Eagles CDs that I've ripped, Hotel California, The Long Run and Their Greatest Hits. I've added Eagles, On the Border, One of These nights and Desperado though Tidal in one seamless Roon interface. This is so cool because HC is not in the Tidal library but you know what, I don't' care. I already own what I own.
As someone who enjoys spending hours at a time poking around record stores, I have to pinch myself. Is this NAS/TIDAL/ROON interface a dream or do I really have a record store in my house?

Dan - do you find Roon expensive?

Dan - do you find Roon expensive? Relative to the rest of the hobby? Nope. For me, Tidal+Roon is like a tank of gas in two ways. 1. Price 2. The machine doesn't do much without it.

There's a short answer - and a very long one. The short answer is that it depends on the service you're using. Some of them allow you to download music for offline use, but many do not, and the way you do so will be up to the individual service you're using (if they don't specifically offer it as an option then you can safely assume that they don't allow you to do so). Most streaming services are not licensed to allow you to download and keep music. Therefore, if they allow you to do "offline listening", their specific client must have some way to download what you request, and then store it in some "locked" format that you can only use through their client. They most certainly do NOT want you to be able to download and keep a copy in a standard format that you can play after you cancel your subscription. The long answer is that there are a whole slew of programs that allow you to (illegally) record ANYTHING that you happen to be listening to on your computer. They vary widely in terms of how effective they are, the sound quality they give you, how complicated they are to install and use, and whether they work with a given service (it's an ongoing competition for the services to prevent you from being to "tape" their music, and the programs to be able to overcome the protection currently in use). Here's one you could check out..... it limits you to "high quality MP3" but claims "to work with any music service". (I haven't tried this one, but their YouTube video capture program works pretty well.) applian.com/replay-music/Help! I don't know how to download music to my IPad for offline use! Help! I don't know how to download music to my IPad for offline use! Can anybody help me with this? Your other options to get music on your iPad are Buy it from iTunes on you iPad Sync your iPad to iTunes on the computer to download songs you already own to your iPad Or if using iTunes Match which allows you to stream your personal music collection rather than keeping it on the iPad... You need to hit the little three ... button and then click the cloud with an arrow on it to download your music from the clod for off line playing.

KeithL & harri009,
Thanks so much, I am using Tidal for offline playing. I just cancelled my iTunes Match because i never use it. Since I am a Tidal subscriber I'll use their services instead. I have figured it out now,,,,,,,,,pretty sure I have, I'll find out for sure when I get to a WiFi center, ie, home.
Thanks for the replys, Nick

Help! I don't know how to download music to my IPad for offline use! Can anybody help me with this? Although I do not suggest piracy, you could download and setup XMPlay to save music on your hard drive. Then copy over to the iPad. >> Linky <<
