Not sure how effective it would be. Too easy to create a new account with a new e-mail. Best defense is diligence and a healthy dose a paranoia. Banning by source IP can be pretty effective. Most people connect from the same IPs or at least network ranges day to say... Still easy to defeat but makes it one more hurtle. I assume ProBoards is capable of IP bans, I know it tracks IPs. The easiest way to defeat IP bans is via a basic proxy server. There are THOUSANDS of free ones and typically VERY easy to use. As such, banning an IP address is basically useless for anyone wanting to scam. |

As such, banning an IP address is basically useless for anyone wanting to scam. I said "can be". If you're smart and you're commited to defrauding people - nothing will work. But to not make any effort to ban someone actively trying to defraud members seems silly. That was my only point. No need to further educate people on how to commit fraud... Again, banning accounts is futile. Being an educated and careful purchaser is the BEST defense against scams. |

A big -1 for lurd. He ended up trying to pull the "TNT COD" scam. This is my first run in with fraud here, its a shame because the Lounge was always kind of a safe heaven from that kind of thing. Be careful! That sucks Nick. I'm glad you caught it before he actually scammed you Tim Thanks Tim. Red flags started going off when I got an email from "TNT" asking me to send payment before the package was delivered, ...in bitcoin lol. The worse part is I finally thought I found the pre pro I was looking for. I think the user should be banned. I get that this won't stop persistent scammers but there's so few here and this guy has had this account for a full year and all of his 9 posts seem to be fishing for victims. Still, being a cautious buyer is the best defense. This guy wasn't going to fool anyone that had there guard up. |

I smelled a fish when looking through his post history he was telling people to email him at different email addresses. |
