I just got my XMC-1 back from servicing, and was all ready to setup Dirac, but the Dirac LE software on my mac is failing to find the EMM-1 microphone. In System Preferences => Sound, I see it (C_Media USB Headphone Set) and the level meters show it's working OK. However, when I start Dirac, it just shows <No Device Connected> for microphone, and won't let me proceed. If I try "Rescan Devices...", same result, no microphone. I've tried restarting, I've tried unplug / re-plug, I've even installed Dirac on my wife's mac, and same thing.
Could the microphone have gone bad since I last used it? Although it confuses me why it would appear find in Sound settings, if it actually had a problem. Exactly how does the Dirac software "detect" the mic, what is it looking for specifically? Maybe something else I've done in audio settings since last time has confused it...

I am no expert, especially as it related to Mac's. But, in order to see your mic plugged into your Mac, the Dirac software needs to be able to see your Mac first. Is Dirac finding your Mac? (And, for Mac's, don't ask me how to figure this out...I can't figure out Mac's at all. But, if the XMC-1 and Mac can't find each other on your network, Dirac will not be able to find your mic.)
I can tell you on my Windows machine, I got a new router and did some new wiring also. My Dirac could not find my mic, nor could it find my XMC-1. So, I shut down my XMC-1, the PC with Dirac, and my router. I re-started each, and suddenly they all each found each other. All was good from there.

Your mac most likely sees the internal mic and not the external one the meters hear through the onboard mic, therefore you get the meters showing they work. Shhh, don't tell anyone, its a common mistake I think we've all made. Its not a headphone set,,its a mic. Give that a try. Nick

You can also tell when it's being used, seems the solid red LED will start flashing, when something is actively listening to it. So, when I select it in Sound panel, it will start flashing, and you can see the level meters are a bit different sensitivity compared to the internal mic. Here's a pic: And here is what Dirac Live keeps showing me:

OK, breat info.
Your system is 6.2 and is configured that way, right?
Id check for a faulty cable/connection, ive found that changing usb inputs sometimes helps/i get lucky.
You've input the calibration files for the mic as well, right?
Word of warning, I have a mac but use a PC for Dirac. How old is your mac?

Yep, 6.2 on purpose (running a phantom center temporarily). I did try the other USB port on my mac, with no luck. Plus my wife's Macbook. I have the calibration file for the EMM-1 (I use it with REW), but how do you input the calibration file for Dirac? (Note I have LE, not Full.)
My mac is the 15" MBP Retina, maybe 4 years old. My wife's Macbook is like a year old (the new one with USB-C).
I purchased a license for Dirac Full, in the hopes that it will let me select the mic (since it will accept any 3rd party microphone). I'll also give Emotiva a call tomorrow once they're open.

First,on Dirac Live Full, right under where you select the microphone, on the same screen, there is a spot to pick the calibration file. (You just tell it which calibration file to load - and point to the file... there's no real "configuration" involved.) Note that you're only going to get the option with the Full version - the LE version will only work with our microphone. There are various reasons why the microphone might temporarily not work on a Windows machine. Even though Dirac should automatically use the correct microphone, sometimes it will decide to use an internal one instead - or Windows will use BOTH. Going into Windows Control Panel and setting the Dirac microphone as your default microphone should help there. And, as usual, if Windows is acting oddly, a good Reboot couldn't hurt. Also make sure AGC is turned off for our microphone. There is a known issue with our microphone and the El Capitan version of OSX... For some reason, certain machines running El Capitan recognize the microphone outside of Dirac - but Dirac doesn't see it. ( MOST machines running El Capitan seem to work fine...) This ONLY happens with El Capitan (we've heard of specific machines where it works fine with Yosemite, stops when El Capitan is installed,. then works again when Yosemite is put back). This seems to be uncommon - but we have reports of five or six machines with this issue; so far we have NOT been able to replicate it here. Dirac is aware of it - but it seems like it might just be "one more weird El Capitan issue"....... We WILL let you know if we find a definite solution (or Dirac may issue an automatic update to fix it).

Thanks Keith! When running Dirac on another mac with Yosemite, I get an activation error. How do I transfer my Dirac license to another mac? Do I need to e-mail someone?

Thanks Keith! When running Dirac on another mac with Yosemite, I get an activation error. How do I transfer my Dirac license to another mac? Do I need to e-mail someone? I believe you can install Dirac twice. Once you have done that and need to reinstall a third time, Emotiva support can reset the "counter" so to speak in order for you to install again.
Might want to call support first thing in the morning so that they can take care of this for you.
Regards,
Steve

You can actually do it yourself, you don't need to contact Emotiva. Follow this link: services.dirac.se/activate_serial/oemservices/sign_in.phplogin and then it shows you what you have Dirac installed on. You then click the delete icon next to the one you want to remove which will free up a new installation to connect.

Yep, that License Service page wasn't working for me yesterday, but today I can login in no problem. I tried uninstalling / reinstalling Dirac LE to no success (still couldn't find mic), then got my license for Dirac Live, and tried that out. Thankfully, worked like a charm, Dirac Live can see and hear the EMM-1 without issue. I was going to wipe another machine with Yosemite to try that out, but since Live is working for me, will take Keith's word for it

When I upgraded to Dirac full version it recognized the microphone. It must be something in the LE version and MacOS El Capitan

Some of you who run Dirac Live on an Apple computer with El Capitan may have experienced an issue where Dirac Live fails to recognize the microphone. When this happens, other programs on the Mac recognize the microphone, but Dirac reports that no microphone is present. This ONLY happens with El Capitan, and ONLY on some few machines (and those same machines work fine with Yosemite on them). Dirac is working on a modification to their software that will permanently eliminate this issue. Until then, we have a workaround that should allow Dirac Live to work properly on machines that exhibit the problem. (Note that this workaround involves manually moving some files, and will probably have to be repeated if Dirac Live is reinstalled or updated.) See the attached PDF for instructions. Hi guys. I have the same problem as the other mac users. I'm using DIRAC as supplied on my Arcam 850 amp. I've done a software update on the amp, but now i can't run Dirac to reload my project software as the Dirac app can't find the Arcam on the network. Ive reset router and switch, reinstalled the software on the MacBook, I can ping the amp nd get a reply from the MacBook, but the software can't find the amp. Completely run out of ideas!!! Anyone help please? Running macOS ver 10.12.1. Firewall disabled so it can be "driven by the arcam demands, I'm lost!!!!!!
