Hello from West Texas! My name is Jeff and I am a long time a/v equipment enthusiast and user who has now joined the Emotiva family. As of today, I now own one of the new BASX A-300 amps with a BASX PT-100 on order (est delivery in August).
I'm a long time NAD owner who currently can't afford Masters Series gear, but can't keep up with the repairs needed for my 12 year old pre/pro and amplifier. I had a couple of multi channel set-ups in the early to mid 2000s, but decided that I'm more of a 2.1 channel type of guy.
My current set-up consists of a NAD 725bee and a newly acquired BASX A-300 amp pushing a pair of NHT Classic threes, augmented on the lower end with an SVS SB-2000, all fed from a Vizio P-series monitor (new smart cast model), an Audiogene B-1 Bluetooth receiver and an Oppo BDP 105D Universal player. VLC, Winamp and Apple lossless handle my digital tracks from my PC.
Ex-musician, father of one, Motorsport enthusiast, wanna-be wine and whiskey guy who isn't as knowledgable as he'd like to be, active military, well traveled and looking forward to communicating with all of you!

I'm way to early into my ownership experience at this point to give any feedback. I'll definitely post up later on once I've done some critical listening. The jump to emotiva for me seems to be in line with a lot of life choices lately that focus on downsizing, focusing on needs instead of wants and finally keeping these solutions as elegant as possible. Before I do give any kind of feedback, I'll need to frame my statements from the point of view of someone who prefers cold realism in audio presentation. The closer the sound to the source recording and actual instruments, the better. I like accurate supportive and tigh bass lines as opposed to bass rich bloated mid range. My NAD/NHT combos have given me this for years. Having auditioned Emotiva previously, I seem to recall a somewhat smoother and less tinny presentation which wasn't what I was accustomed to, but very enjoyable and easier to listen too for longer periods of time. |

I moved too from NAD to Emotiva, although AVRs, not 2-ch. I had a T-752 for many years and I liked it a lot. After the second failure, though (first one happened just as the 2-yr warranty was expiring), I decided to let it go and buy a Fusion 8100.
All the time I had the NAD I was driving all passive speakers (5.0), with 6 Ohm L/R mains. In my relatively small room (17x13x8), my ears gave up before the NAD did :-)
When I switched to the Fusion 8100 I found the behavior very similar to the NAD, with the advantage of a lower noise floor and a more compact form factor. The 8100 also has a toroidal transformer, the NAD did not.
Now it is several months that I have added a Rythmik L12 sealed sub and that made the Fusion 8100 really shine. The crossover is set a 80Hz and I can push the system even more than before. Whether it is 2-ch music or 5.1 movies, the sound at high listening level is noticeably more dynamic and "clean" and not just in the low range.

Thanks for the insight musichead! I have to admit, I have my reservations about going from a $1300 two channel amp to a $400 two channel amp. My expectations have been adjusted, but I do love being surprised and the satisfaction that comes with finding a 90% solution at 1/4 the cost. I think the emotiva will give me that.
I still love NAD, but I see the company moving in a direction that I can't afford to follow. That and their more midrange equipment just doesn't seem to up to quality standards any more.
Finally, if I'm being perfectly honest, I really wanted to move away from the major brands for something simpler, higher quality and with a lower marketing budget. Emotiva has a really cool aesthetic, are well reviewed and sounded great to me in previous auditions. With my amp crapping out and the BASX line hitting the streets, the timing seemed right. I'm super excited about this.
Now I have to wait until August for my PT-100.... :-(

Welcome! What do you use to convert the digital to analog? I'm currently using my Oppo bdp 105D as a DAC for everything. It's actually one of the best DACs I've used for the money....that also plays Blu-rays. |
