Run that thru the Oppo(use the Oppo as a preamp) You may not want a separate preamp

Ok, so after a full day of playing around, I got my new gear set up. I replaced my old Denon AVR-991 with an AVR-X3200W and a pair of Bas X-300s to drive my 3.1 channel set up. One Bas X is driving the LCR center channel and the other is driving the left and right channel of the pair of in ceiling speakers. First of all, the new Denon/Marantz receivers have the ability to not only adjust the overall source input level, but each independent source level, as well as independent speaker levels for each source whereas my old Denon only allowed an overall source level adjustment and only speaker level adjustments for each source. If you follow what I am saying, this means I have moved to receivers that allow for twice as many independent source level and speaker level adjustments. I am glad to see that sometime in the last 7 years this change was made. This alone makes the overall loudness of each source much better than before.
Now to the Bas X. There is, without a doubt, no comparison in sound quality and overall depth even with the additional adjustments in source and speaker level volumes than without the amps. Before I could hear the speakers getting close to clipping when driving them off of the old receiver. They had a tinny sound to them unlike how the same surround speakers sound since adding the XPA 5 to my HT system. The change in sound is as immediately apparent on this system as it was after adding the XPA 5. This system is in an exercise room and since the volume has to be turned up considerably to be heard over the sound of a treadmill and Schwinn Airdyne bike, before the new set up It was apparent it was being pushed. The speakers are average efficiency at 89 and 90 db. The amps run cool and cascade triggering from the receiver works nicely.
I think that for a basic stereo only system this amp delivers the perfect amount of power for smaller speakers. In-ceiling and in-walls like I have and bookshelf should also sound great. This is partially why I didn't spend an extra $300 to get an XPA 3 Gen 3. For music with smaller speakers 275 watts would be overkill, plus since I have this system installed in a bookshelf, the smaller footprint is perfect.

Crash6 you are the person I have been wanting for. I am thinking of buying the A300 and would like to pick your brain a bit. You stated that you heard more detail at lower volume using the A300, could you expand on this please. How much lower would you say you could turn the receiver down and get the same output that just the receiver put out. The reason I'm asking is I have the Marantz SR5010 Rated at 100 watts 2 channels into 8 ohms 140 into 6 ohms. I want to use the A300 to power (2) RBH R55TI @ 6 ohms. And my fear is I will not see any different between Marantz and the A300 at a given volume setting. Right now I have to turn up the Marantz to between 40 to 45 o a scale from 0 to 98 to get a sound level I like.
I know what you mean, I also have an sr5010 but I added and XPA-2 Gen3 (300w/ch). I noticed immediately a better sounding system, a lot of detail but had the same issue with the volume level. I ran the Audyssey setup into a 2.1 speaker system, and raised source level input just 3db (12db max) as another member recommended, and it did improve like what the output used to be at 50 it is like maybe 45 now. Sound difference is what is more noticeable. Give it a try, hope it helps.

I'm having a hard time understanding this. I listened to the Marantz receiver sr5010 and it was extremely powerful including driving small Martin Logan electrostats. Even the Marantz 1506 was driving the Martin Logan electrostats. What size room ar you in? Unless your trying to drive 7 decent sized speakers and want to reduce stress on the amp then I can't see any improvement. If I was listening to two channels alot that sr5010 will blow you out of the room. The only time you would need a bigger amp is if your doing alot of home theater running all 7 channels hard and loud.
