I see that a lot of people not using spikes have wood floors. I am sure many of you know they make discs for the spikes to sit in to avoid damaging the floor.

Depending on the listening environment the spikes will do all the difference or nothing. Let me explain why, per example: in an basement on a concrete floor with concrete walls, putting the speakers on spikes will do near nothing in sounds results except for very sensitive ears they'll hear subtle differences in precision. Instead on wood floor with wood structure walls like my cheap 1974 bungalow, spikes will do a huge, a major, a night and day difference, My 1974 (worst decade for construction regulations in Quebec) bungalow living room is maybe the worst environment for a listening room I had ever seen, first the room is very small 12' X 18' and the construction materials are very cheap (wall of 2" X 4" Studs and outside aluminum clapboard, floor of 2" X 10" strut and not enough thick plywood and not enough rigid and strong), it resulting in a too flexible room to obtaining a good sound. Imagine that you try to listening music in a cardboard shoe's box, all that you hear come from the vibrating box. In this environment the spikes avoid greatly reduce the transmission of the sounds to the environment materials and it results in a more accurate, tighten and detailed sounding. In my particular case not only spikes change everything but by adding a 2in thick granite stone between the wood floor and the spikes multiply the decoupling effect, I can't really tell you how much is the benefit in my listening room, you have to listening by yourself to realize it. So my answer is, absolutely YES

Hey novisnick , have you tried spikes under your towers? Not yet my friend, I've had a bad day, thats why I'm playing the Blues spikes are for isolation.. to isolate the speaker off the floor.. depending on your room acoustics and construction the results will vary.. your digms should have some rubber spikes.. too... rubber is a great isolator for wood floors as well instead of the spikes which make nasty holes.... good idea to isolate cant hurt... cheers..
