Not all 2.1 set-ups need bass management. Bass management is helpful because it can relieve power anemic AVRs from their duty of driving speakers full range. It lightens the load on an AVR and shifts part of the bass load off onto the sub. But if you have an amp like the BASx a-300, or even greater power, you may not even need a sub! You may want to do 2.0 stereo instead of 2.1 channel stereo. Powerful amps can drive big, full range speakers. If your amp has enough juice, go buy some Cerwin Vega tower speakers with double 12" woofers. My speakers are at the other end of the Cerwin Vega spectrum. I have a pair of bookshelf speakers (one 6.5" mid/woofer, 1 inch tweeter) and a pair of small towers (two 6.5" mid/woofers, 1 inch tweeter). Both pairs are easy to drive 8 Ohm speakers. I have hooked both pairs up to a 75 watt RMS Yamaha R-S500 receiver to do A/B testing. With that receiver, I have easily driven both speakers at the same time. They have good mid and upper bass extension, but a sub helps with the lower bass. My speakers are a good match for that amp. If you have somewhat hard to drive speakers in a 2.1 set-up and you wish your amp had a little more juice, then bass management is a good thing. Bass management is a nice feature to have, but in many situations it is not a deal breaker.

Logitech Squeezebox Touch. Nothing in the market has replaced this little gem, not Sonos, not Bluesound. Bluetooth audio quality and dropouts. Too bad it's discontinued but if you can find one, that's what I would get.

If anyone is looking for one, I'll be putting a Duet up for sale shortly in the Emporium. Original box and all. Going to try Bluesound. Hope I'm not making a mistake.

(I do have 3 remotes but they seldom go bad.)

Expecting to get a Bluesound Node 2 in April. The Squeezebox Duet has been great. No problems. I'll be selling it for an inexpensive price and hope it finds a good home.

AirPlay and ChromeCast are both viable solutions without any sound degradation, depending on your preferred platform. ChromeCast being the cheaper of the two. I have a virtual machine running iTunes with both my wife's music library and my music library. From any of our iDevices (Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc.) we can use the "Remote" app to control the centralized iTunes and stream it to any room in the house. I have a mix of AppleTVs, Airport Express, and Dayton Audio WFA02's. The newer model WFA28 has an optical output: www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-wfa28-multi-room-wi-fi-audio-adapter-with-ir-remote-and-optical-output--300-577

I've demo'd a couple Bluesounds....Flex, Pulse2 and Mini Pulse. I think they sound amazing. I'm still figuring out which I want for a digital bedroom setup. Hoping the price drops a some because right now they're not at a very competitive price point, IMO.
