Weeks ago I received back my DC-1 from Emotiva repair due to channel/drop-out grunge problems which seems to have been caused by the circuit board getting really dirty, and which they cleaned and checked out - they even suggested possibly a cat threw up in it! (Technically this is possible). Anyway, just the other day I hit the mute button, which I rarely use, and instead of muting, the sound got much louder. Scared me a bit! Consistant whether on speaker or headphones. I know it worked before so I wonder if in the cleaning process some "wires got crossed". I'm loathe to send it back in again. Curious if anybody has every run into mute going mutant on you!

Consistant whether on speaker or headphones. I know it worked before so I wonder if in the cleaning process some "wires got crossed". I'm loathe to send it back in again. Curious if anybody has every run into mute going mutant on you! The DC-1 has a user adjustable mute level. So if you have that set at say -20 and you are listening at -25 the hitting the mute will cause the music to get louder. From the manual: SETUP: MUTE LEVELWhen you press the Mute button on the DC-1 remote control, the main and headphonelevels are changed to a fixed (configurable) mute level. This option lets you configurethat level.Options are: Silent (the default), -20 dB, and -40 dBNote: The mute function changes the output level to a fixed - preset - level(the -20 and -40 dB settings are relative to full Volume), if you engage Mutewhile playing the DC-1 at a very low level, the result may actually be anincrease in output level. To set mute to Silent: 1) Press the Menu knob once; “SETUP” is displayed on the top line of the display.2) Turn the knob until “MUTE LEVEL” is displayed on the bottom line of the display.3) Press the knob; “MUTE LEVEL” is now displayed on the top line of the display.4) Turn the knob until “SILENT” is displayed on the bottom line of the display.5) Press the knob; a bright triangle appears to the left of “SILENT” indicating that it isthe active choice (if SILENT was already the active choice, then the bright triangle wasalready next to it).At this point we can either turn the knob until “RETURN” is displayed on bottom lineof the display, then press the knob again - which will bring us back to the main menulevel where we can select something else to change - or simply wait for the menu toleave setup mode after a few seconds. From the main menu level, simply select “EXIT”and press enter to leave the Setup Menu.

Nice!!! So the mute can be set at a lower volume level which resets to it instantly?! I can see this being of lots of use!

The DC-1 has a user adjustable mute level. Way cool! Works! No more sudden explosions of sound. Thanks, geebo!
