So if you stream them from Roon, do you have an MQA capable DAC? No. Currently Tidal does the conversion in software, so it works with any DAC. Roon has stated that they are working on their own software decoder for MQA. I am excited to try the hardware decoding once audioquest updates the dragonfly black firmware. I will compare that to the DC-1 and see what happens...

Let's talk TIDAL -
The lying b*****ds at Best Buy assured me that TIDAL would make it completely unnecessary for me to keep my own music library anymore (everything you want'll be available on TIDAL). I found out immediately that more than half the music on my music library was NOT available on TIDAL and that it would NEVER replace having a separate library. One lie.
Then the Best Buy guys sold me a "year's subscription" to TIDAL for about $100. Then the TIDAL website cut me off after three months (despite my bought & paid for year's subscription key), saying I had to pay them a monthly fee. Two lies.
I was also told that I could access TIDAL from ANY device, but not a single "additional" device was I ever able to set up successfully. Three lies - they're out.
Best Buy AND TIDAL can KMA.

The setting in the Mid setup doesn't matter, since, just make the chosen output in Tidal desktop client to use Exclusive Mode and if you have an external mean of volume control, Force Volume.

I can't get any of the hi Rez albums to show up on my laptop. They do not appear in the what's new section.

The pre-reqs are:
1. You need to have the latest version of the desktop tidal app in either Win or MacOS
2. You need to have a Tidal Hifi subscription
Then it What's New at the Albums section, you can see Masters to the very Righ, i.e ALBUMSNew Recommendations Top 20 English Masters.

Thanks again for your help and patience. First, go to What's New. Then Click on Masters, then it will list a few MQA albums, if you want more click Show All. Play one of them and it will show MASTER in the bottom status bar left of the speaker icon.

All you need is a TIDAL HiFi membership to access thousands of master-quality albums only through the TIDAL desktop application."I'm not sure how to interpret the above other than that you need the desktop app but one of the points with MQA is that you can listen to them but without the MQA improved sound even without an MQA encoder, so you can play the file through Roon or any other player but not necessarily get the "MQA sound"
EDIT: Tried to fins that Montezuma song with Fleet Foxes MQA in Tidal and none of their albums are MASTER, just HIFI. Confusing....

Maybe I am misunderstanding you... Basically, I am saying if you have a Tidal Hifi subscription and Roon, you can stream the new master files through Roon without opening the Tidal desktop app. As I understand it, this gives you some of the claimed benefits of MQA (phase correction and hirez unpacking). The only benefit of having an MQA enabled DAC is the DAC profiling feature.

I can't get Tidal through Roon ot play anything else than 44.1/16. ;Maybe the latter is down to regional differences.
