Maybe I am misunderstanding you... Basically, I am saying if you have a Tidal Hifi subscription and Roon, you can stream the new master files through Roon without opening the Tidal desktop app. As I understand it, this gives you some of the claimed benefits of MQA (phase correction and hirez unpacking). The only benefit of having an MQA enabled DAC is the DAC profiling feature. I was just quoting Tidal, what happens in the background with MQA is an Enigma. I can't get Tidal through Roon ot play anything else than 44.1/16. ;Maybe the latter is down to regional differences. Yeah, who knows why that is. All I know is that I can stream all kinds of high resolution content now... Here is another screenshot of a 24/44 file playing through Tidal/Roon.

According to Roon it plays it bit perfect, no conversion of anything, and the DACs confirms it is indeed 48k there being fed.

Via Roon, TIDAL streams from the newly created "Masters" section in the OS X desktop app are showing 24 bit. I assume since neither Roon nor my DAC are MQA capable, it's just numbers at this point or is TIDAL streaming high rez? Apologies if this was already defined - the MQA announcements are confusing.

Okay, I'm a little blown away that a year ago I was streaming Google Play Music @320 and tonight I'm listening to a 24 bit TIDAL stream of this album. Exciting times. Sort of wish the XDA-2 Gen 2 display offered bit depth as well as sample rate.

Had to reload tidal on my desktop and the masters now shows up. Have not had a chance to listen yet. Is there much of a sound quality difference with the high Rez?

Well your question has opened up myriad cans of worms. Recordings which are not overly compressed nor loud and mastered well, the high resolution version is often superior to my ears. More analog sound with more detail than the CD quality. A crazy compressed, distorted and loud track sounds no better in high resolution to me. TIDAL's current selection of high resolution is extremely small. It's more of a sampler of albums.

I browsed through the Tidal Masters today, and I found several albums I like. I listened to some on my PC this AM (via my Airmotiv 3b's)...need to fire up the HTPC and see how they sound on my main system.

I have a question about TIDAL MASTERS. I have Tidal with Apple TV in my listening room. I understand to acquire the masters from TIDAL I have to have the app on my desktop. Currently I am using my iPad. Would I be able to put my desktop in sleep mode and still be able to access the masters thru my iPad. Also is there any audio advantage in having ROON + TIDAL
Thanks

Also is there any audio advantage in having ROON + TIDAL Thanks How does your ipad control you computer? It doesn't Nick. Perhaps I phrased it the wrong way. Here is the layout. In my HT/2channel listening room I have Apple TV. Using my iPad that has the TIDAL APP. That is how I stream my music to the Grace Design m920 powering my b&w's with my tube mono-blocks. Also I have an APP for ITunes for my music catalog but b/c of TIDAL I do not use. (iTunes Match) I use to have to leave my computer ON when using iTunes Match which I did not like b/c my desktop is on the third floor. I am thinking I would have to leave the computer on if I wanted to access TIDALMASTERS from my desktop but I wanted someone else to have a voice as I am NOT computer savvy. That is why I am also asking about ROON, ROON + Tidal is there an audio advantage of having both? How do they interact? I am curious about that combination. If ROON has a positive impact in audio quality, how much does one actually hear disseminating TIDAL by itself and then listening with ROON. I am from the camp that it is all in the original recording. I know my listening devices (EARS) are battle fatigued from prior years of abuse. Thank God I am able to appreciate what I listen to on my current setup. I still have that ability to be able to compare noticeable differences in recordings and speaker placement....and some equipment. However, minor nuances I could not tell you. Thanks Nick...I hope I explained myself a little better.

You need to have a computer be it Mac or Windows or what have you connected to your system using the Tidal desktop app, I run it on my Mac Mini but I need to have a screen connected to the Mac to see what I am doing and control it with my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, there is no way I know of to remotely control the desktop of a Mac with an ipad other than the ipad playing your itunes library remotely but that of course has nothing to do with Tidal. there is no way I know of to remotely control the desktop of a Mac with an ipad other than the ipad playing your itunes library remotely but that of course has nothing to do with Tidal. On your Mac, enable screen sharing in System Preferences -> Sharing Then install a VNC client on your iPad, for instance the free VNC Viewer, and use that to access the Mac desktop from your iPad. There might also be a program in the newer versions of iOS that you can use.
