Are you looking for a pure analog headphone amp or do want a DAC built into it?

I would prefer a DAC if possible. Tube or SS

Looking for under $500 headphone amp suggestions.. Guess a Emotiva Stealth DC-1 could work I have Grado SR 60, Grado SR325, Sennheiser 650s and soon B&W P5s to use with it The DC-1 is very good at what it does. I have it just next to me and the headphone section does just fine but not the best for the Sennheiser 650. It sounds good with them, I have the Sennheiser 600 but there is not a lot of output at 300 ohms. You can enjoy the sound but to push the Sennheiser's to there sweet spot you need a little more. The 900mw using balanced cables with the Schiit Jotunheim would do it. Most go with the Schiit Valhalla 2 Maximum Power, 50 ohms: 180mW RMS per channel Maximum Power, 300 ohms: 800mW RMS per channel Maximum Power, 600 ohms: 450mW RMS per channel or Schiit Lyr 2 Maximum Power, 32 ohms: 6.0W RMS per channel Maximum Power, 50 ohms: 4.0W RMS per channel Maximum Power, 300 ohms: 660mW RMS per channel Maximum Power, 600 ohms: 330mW RMS per channel for the Sennheiser 650. The Grado SR 60 or Grado SR325 at 32 ohms will do great with the DC-1.

I say go with one of the Schiit options! The Jotunheim would be my pick...especially with a balanced source.

Guys how the heck are they managing that power?! That's a LOT of power. Look at those 600 ohm specs. For comparison the XDA-2 I think does something like 19 miliwatts at 300 ohms. Plus it's fully balanced! Pretty insane. I predict they are going to rework some of their higher end units to incorporate Schiit's propriety balanced topology.
But seriously though....what is its competition at this price range for power and fully balanced?! Only one I can think of is Little Dots MKVII + but it's 3 times less power at 300 mw @ 300 ohms (still pretty darn nice!) $450

Plus it is not $500, it is $399.

So what are the Jotunheim's limitations? It does look great on paper but it has too many features crammed into one mall chassis for a $400 - $500 HP-Amp or Amp/DAC not to have some important limitations; otherwise, why would anyone even want to buy a Yggy/Ragnarok Stack which is more expensive by hundreds of miles, or even higher priced amp/dac stacks, after the release of this apparently miraculous marvel? If it does have some important limitations, Jude should be aware of them, but why does he not even mention any of them?
New Toy syndrome hype train? Jude should be ashamed of himself! He does this all the time. Sigh!

You have to remember that Ortho dynamics are a harder drive. Also having the headroom for the dynamics is always a great thing. Many great buys here. The Schiit Audio, Emotiva Audio DC-1, and the Big Ego is worth a close listen too. It maybe small, but don't let that fool you. It is a fine listen too. But your choice of amplifier couldn't be better.
