3. Will that same module be able to be used to drive other speakers and with non-subwoofer roles (e.g. Auro-3D channels) at some point in the future? 4. If the answer to all of those question is yes, can two of those modules be purchased from the get go so the RMC-1 is configured for 24 channels even though a future software update will be required to make use of all 24 channels? Obviously nobody has answers to any of those questions. We shall wait and see. Listening to Dan he says of the 4ch balanced xlr card at around 6'50 it has independent dsp ; and is fully assignable so that covers all codecs presumably and multiple configurations . The dsp it contains will also do levels and eq for subs as Lonnie says earlier ; its very versatile ..As stated it has this capability from the get go ; this will be a popular card no doubt

I’m curious why they capped it at 24 with a third bay I would think it would do 28. I’m only curious because I read on avsforum there was a small group of people that talked to Lonnie and he might of mentioned it was powerful enough to handle 32 (hearsay). I wonder if 24 is a temporary limit and they’d go for something extra that could do more than 28 for the final bay or if its processing is maxed out. Don’t get me wrong 24 makes me happy. Very happy. Thank you to everyone at Emotiva.

One is entirely used for Atmos/DTS-X, the other one does sound field management, Dirac Eq, and misc other goodies. Dan said there is a ton of design margin, so I would guess that one of the 2nd DSP Shark cores and its associated 8 channels of DAC might be available to get the Atmos channel count up to 24. More, would require another DSP.

All this channel talk is quite curious indeed. With the talk of some big Atmos announcement, the talk of pinning to X.X.4 heights, and the talk about the RMC doing 24 channels, I know my ears are standing at attention. I'll almost never do more than 7.3.6, but I guess we'll see. It would be really nice to get some definite information on all of these things. So far the pinning info has only come mostly from Gary Cook. No one else seems to be able to provide hard core information on it. I'm tempted to write S&V to see what they say.

I’m sure Gary is more than qualified to discuss the pinning limitation but I don’t think anyone is able to discuss what is in the works as it sounds to be under nda’s. As of now Emotiva’s 24 channel count might mean their exciting Dolby news has more to do with Dolby expanded layouts than DSU but I’d hope it would deal with both. Either way Emotiva promised us content for all speakers even if it’s not all discrete so I’d assume either a upgraded DSU or an Emotiva upmixer as they have also discussed. I’d still assume they’d have someway to have some additional underlying info in the pinned streaming format for an updated DSU to accurately expand on. That’s pure speculation though.

What's odd about the pinning thing is that its coming from Gary Cook and not Dolby or S&V what have you. Not saying Gary isn't right or doesn't have his schiit together, because he usually does. Just saying why are we hearing about it from some guy on a forum and not from the people who make this stuff? It's almost like they don't want people to know. Why the cloak and dagger? Let's just cut through the crap and tell us like it is. Annoying really. As for the rest, let's see what comes about.

I agree. That’s why I’ve been hoping they’re doing some workarounds to make it a non issue or else you’d think they would of had time to rewrite what they have made public to us consumers about their new norm. I’m hoping they just aren’t done implementing their changes. Like why talk about and make public their new limitations if they have plans to further address them then make it all public when it sounds more in line with the Atmos we were originally sold on.

I don't think that any of this has to do with Dolby, unless they have written a new upgraded DSU that is more expansive. Dolby has always been able to handle 24.10 channels for home and much more for for theater. They sell mixer software to the film professionals and rendering software to the disc or media file makers that can be used to whatever degree the studio wants and pinning a sound to a given location has always been an optional feature.

Dolby has always had the 24.1.10 format standard but I think most of the units that go past 7.1.6 have had to do it in a proprietary non standard way with the xyz data like the trinnov. I could be wrong considering there is the storm and datasat that I don’t know much about. The pinning is an automated process though right? Do they chose to process a pinned format and it does it for them or do the sound engineers themselves create the 7.1.4 individual channels? I thought I read it was an automated process broken down from the cinema version in which case I’d hope while it rewrites the signal it can also find proprietary tracers on how to direct its upconversion with DSU. If it’s not automated then yeah that wouldn’t even be a possibility. You would think with streaming in mind they would keep to the same goals of the video side which is to compress the data in a way that a lot of the original quality can still be brought back out. I’m hoping we are waiting on a few upgrades for the DSU including it’s channel ability.

I’m looking forward to home installation photos with this unit in place. The complexity of this processor, with all those channels appears that it could exceed the capabilities of some commercial theaters, at least from an electronics standpoint.....how many will take it that far at home will be most interesting to me. Don’t mean this in a BAD way, no not at all just curious as to how the niche market pans out.

In all fairness the 2019 thread was started just before the November 15th announcement, and, given Emotiva's history and lack of communication at the time, rather appropriate. We're all glad the release looks like it will be soon 😁👍.

We are pretty close to 2019 and they are probably one setback away from 2019 being a reality.
But it really does seem like the light is there at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully they won’t release production dates in the future before they have secured all the parts but I am sure they are learning.
This forum and AVS is pretty ruthless however Emotiva has the largest display room at Axpona so it sure seems like they are doing a lot better than other manufacturers.
I’ll probably wait until Axpona 2019 since it’s not too far away after the launch dates of these new processors before I make my move.
