Emotiva is full-out pushing for a November release, which is obviously important for the Christmas season. HDMI testing, new production DSP's, new software, production preparations, etc. With that in mind, are you serious? - Rich Oh yeah, I get it. I wouldn't expect the "S" version to be available at first. Get the thing running smoothly takes top priority. As I've stated before, even if I did buy one, I wouldn't do it for at least the first year probably. Getting bugs out and the expansion modules are high on my list first. Without those meeting my wants and needs, I won't be buying one at all. I'd much rather remove the side plates entirely since the brushed aluminum faceplate is much more attractive. On the ATI 6000 Amp's, I removed the handles. ATI provided shorter screws to facilitate this. I don't care for the white lettering, Jeff at ATI sent me a link to paint remover they use, but in the end, I decided to leave it. - Rich

I imagine the November release has more to do with having a date for Cedia than the holidays.. it would seem strange to see the RMC-1 as a gift to anyone other than ourselves. I am really anxious to actually get some relavent information released on dolby and the expansion module plans. Either way count me in on a selfish Christmas.
If they are taking custom color and orders I’ll take a metal box without nobs, buttons, led screens or color to cut cost as I don’t plan on seeing it after installation. (Not seriously demanding this*)

They aren't going to start making silver plates or custom colors etc etc. If people jump on that bandwagon nothing will happen. They will dismiss it immediately and move on. That doesn't get us anywhere. richb, you removing the side plates is a super simple option for you and others who prefer that. Awesome. Emotiva's color theme for a long time was silver and black. Then they switched. Myself and a decent percentage of others like the old look. An easy simple super low cost (almost free) way to get back a lot of that look is to very simply swap out silver trim and make the knob silver. Anything else would not be that simple, so those suggestions don't help. As for extra costs, make the RMC-1S $5025 and it would be well worth it in my rack.

I'm told our internationally appointed dealer for Emotiva is NOT going to carry the RMC-1 - (Unconfirmed in writing but still)...what sort of nonsense is this....anyone else outside of the USA heard of any trend?

You can also take it another way Bonzo rather than the 3 slots ie 4 modules are listed by Dan if you get into the nitty gritty 1. expansion 4ch module [atmos;bi amping etc] 2.slim network streamer 3. dual balanced xlr input [ as shown in the other thread ] 4.MM/MC phono module

I'll say this, if those are the only modules slated for production, the RMC-1 falls immediately off my radar. I don't need any of those things, especially not for the extra coin they will cost.

Could the extra channels of the RMC-1 be used to drive active loudspeakers? I have 4-way speakers which are driven with an outboard crossover. Given the power of the RMC-1 and its ability to apply crossover and EQ to all channels, seems like it could be used to drive active speakers. Just need to tell it to route the same input channel to the 4 output channels and then apply the appropriate EQ and x-over.

In general, the input of a powered loudspeaker looks exactly like the input on a power amp - so ANYTHING that can be connected to a power amp can be connected to a powered loudspeaker. The goal is to replace the outboard active crossover with the processing power of the RMC-1. So for a 4-way speaker, we would use 4 RMC-1 channels (via expansions) for each speaker: High Upper mid Lower mid Bass

Then if all seems clean, no unwanted power on/off noises I might try it as an active crossover. What’s still unclear, and I don’t see mention on the product page, is whether the bi-amp / crossover feature is part of the basic RMC-1, or it requires an expansion module. Dan mentioned it when describing the 4 channel module, so it’s not clear where the capability lies. KeithL, can you clarify whether unused channels in an un-expanded RMC-1 can be configured for passive or active bi/tri/multi amp mode?

The RMC-1 specifically seems to be for the dedicated theater where it is more practical and worth it to go beyond the 16 channels. The RMC-2 sounds like the best bang for the buck for normal rooms where you’ll be seeing your speakers in the open and just pair it with outside sources to cater to individual needs. It also sounds like the channel count is back to 24. In this case what I’d really like to see as an expansion bay is a video processor, scaler, and tone mapper that can be applied to all inputs similar to what the oppo offers and the ub820. Bring back Darbee in 4k hdr even better. No point unless you can keep the added lag down to almost nothing for me. I already was lucky enough to pick up the 203 before it was discontinued so it can handle everything on its single input but the additional lag it creates makes any type of gaming impossible and there isn’t another option with a input without spending around 6k for an all in one scaler. The 2019 JVC finally has its own tone mapper and can finally vertical stretch 4k 60p but the old projectors could not and the 2019 Sony’s still lacks a tone mapper for projectors. If someone wants all this and the ability to use a htpc for gaming with an a-lens for the 21:9 format then there needs to be an external processor that handles vertical stretch 4k 60p without lag. Just mentioning a current delimma for some dedicated projector theaters including my own. I’m sure by the time hdmi 2.1 comes a long all these projectors will manage to do it all themselves like the JVC’s just did. But if Emotiva could even introduce an internal 4k darbee unit it’s almost guaranteed to sell.

... But if Emotiva could even introduce an internal 4k darbee unit it’s almost guaranteed to sell. ... but guaranteed to sell enough to be worth the development time of their small staff, and be worth the headaches they would incur when it possibly didn't work perfectly with every TV and projector? To me this doesn't seem like an area they should stretch themselves thin on. I pondered a while back whether these 'slots' for the expansion modules could be less proprietary (or even follow some standard) so that a third party could build a module for the RMC-1, this seems like the kind of thing someone else might do better.

That’s why I thought a Darbee or even oppo type of deal like they’ve done with Dirac or Dolby where they break ground together. Even lumagen. Like where Emotiva can pocket a cut and have a company like lumagen or what not do the lifting with fair share of profit. But I understand it’s not their strength as a company so I probably would be better off waiting for someone else to fill that gap where you place it inbetween your source or RMC-1 to the projector/tv.

OK.... that question makes more sense.
Unfortunately, at this time, I have no specific information about what expansion modules we're going to offer, or what their exact capabilities will be. (You can bet that will be affected by which features the most people ask for. ) In general, the input of a powered loudspeaker looks exactly like the input on a power amp - so ANYTHING that can be connected to a power amp can be connected to a powered loudspeaker. Thanks, though by your answer it somewhat implies that these features are not part of the base unit, but that too is ... conjecture. So since we're asking , I'd like to be able to bi-amp (passive or active), without buying additional channel modules. It does seem reasonable that if we're not using all 16 channels (7.2.4 / 7.1.6, etc) that we should be able to use the unused channels to bi/multi-amp (features like this have been around). Even if it was limited to LR that would be a benefit.

Any chance of a Zone 3 output on the RMC-1? I know it is a super specific request but for my outdoor set up I really enjoy the way I can control the volume for my patio speakers separately from my speakers that play towards the pool. I don't really need difference sources per say, just a way to control the volume levels independently of one another. Also an iOS app for the RMC would be amazing. It would be perfect to control everything from outside. This is what I do with my current Marantz as I can control everything from my phone on my patio.

This is what I do with my current Marantz as I can control everything from my phone on my patio. From the wording on the product page I'd assume we'll get at least what features are now in the XMC-1 iOS App, that includes Z2 volume. I often use the XMC App when outdoors to control the volume of all my outdoor Zones (separate Zone amp fed by Z2). If there was a Zone 3, there would probably be a way to control it via the app, but I did say 'assume' and 'probably')
