Speaking of inputs, that's a lot of HDMI inputs, maybe it's just me as I only use 3 (cable TV, BD and ATV) and when my son stays over he plugs in a PlayStation. So 4 is plenty for me, my cousin uses 5 as he has 2 games platforms, which is about the most I have encountered. Does anyone on here use 8? Do you think you would ever use 8? Cheers Gary I'm using 7 at the moment...TiVo, Oppo (which is using 2), HTPC, 360, PS3, and a Chromecast. I occasionally use the 8th for my laptop. The reason for having the Oppo on two inputs that way, is that we don't have the flexibility that the UMC-1 offered, where I could assign 1 physical input to two "virtual inputs"...so one is set up for Blu-Ray/DVD/network/streaming video, and one is set up purely for audio, for when I play physical discs/HDCD/etc.

Speaking of the Emotive 40% off processor upgrade, I never got a card like that when I bought my DMC-1 back in September 2007. I presume that Emotive keeps track of this for us?

On my Logitech remote I have several activities that switch to the HTPC input but they use different sound modes based on music, movies etc.

It sure gets stuffy around here. I suppose I should be wearing a tie and my GOOD shoes while I browse internet forums. You mean I'm the only one who does this?!

Probably not the only one, but personally I wasn't even wearing pants when I posted that. Hell, I wasn't wearing pants when I put an order in for B1's over the phone today.

Casey Your case might be different being that there weren't physical cards back then (me thinks)but I was shocked to find out they're no way to track your card if it's lost or used! I have/had one that I misplaced and I didn't get any cleared answer to what I should do, as I had it registered from the original owner and I have the email to prove it! Anyway to your point I believe you should be golden in your case. Cheers Dan

I'm afraid you'll have to call in and talk to someone about something as old as the DMC-1 (that's before my time). However, I can tell you that, in the days of the UMC-1, if you were a US customer, you were sent a physical card. (I believe that, for most international customers, we simply "kept it on file for you".) The card was good for 40% off of list price on any future processor (and you can only use it once). The reason that you have to have the physical card in order to use it is that the physical card CAN be bought and sold - just like cash. Think of it like a gift certificate.. (So it's quite possible that someone may have and use a card who isn't a current Emotiva customer, and we would have no way of knowing if you sold it to someone else, then tried to use it anyway.) However, anyone who has purchased a UMC-1 or newer processor is considered to be one of our "discount for life" members anyway. That gets you 25% off any future processor(s) you buy.... and is associated with your being in our customer database (you can't sell it or give it away; you can't lose it; and we just look you up). As I said, though, you'll have to call in and find out what's up with a DMC-1 as I have no idea how we're working it with that one. Thanks KeithL! I'll wait till the RMC-1 comes out and then call. I'm pretty sure that it was Cathy who actually took my order over the phone, but that was 9 years ago ... :-) I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys do with the RMC-1! Casey

Oh, probably. I haven't worried about it too much because it's not an issue till the RMC-1 comes out.
And to be honest, while it's great that Emotiva offered a lifetime 40% Off on future Emotiva Processors when I bought the DMC-1 in September 2007, that wasn't why I bought the DMC-1 and it's been a great audio processor[1]. I'm a little worried that taking 40% off of the base price of the RMC-1 will push Emotiva into negative earnings on that units. I'd rather the company stay in business and continue designing new toys. :-)
Casey
[1] I don't run video through my DMC-1 since I only have a single HDMI source. I just route my Oppo's HDMI output directly to my Pioneer Monitor. The DMC-1 depended on an external HDMI Switch to allow different HDMI inputs to be switched so I just told them to not bother sending it to me.

That's with a one time use with a card. What you might be confusing it with 25% off any future pre processor which is life time with a purchase of earlier prepros. Not sure when or with what initial, or exact pre pro from my understanding. If anyone else would like to chime in if I'm wrong please do. Thanks Dan

I think that was the deal when I bought my DMC-1/MPS-1 back in September 2007. I'm pretty sure I didn't get a card at the time ... I certainly don't have one now (and I'm a pretty manic saver of such things).
In any case, the RMC-1 is probably what I'll replace my DMC-1 with. The only other processors which are in the running would be the Marantz 8802A and the Anthem AVM60 I think. But my inclination is to keep the MPS-1 company with a new Big Brother ... :-)

Thanks Dan Nope, no such thing as a lifetime 40% off discount or card. There is a lifetime discount (DFL), of 25% if you have purhased a processor, there was also a 40% off discount card that came with some processors, this discount only applied to the full retail price of a new processor. These cards are bought and sold like a commodity. Both programs have ended. A card is not necessarily on file with Emotiva, you'll need to call and confirm or find your original bill of sale.

When you say the programs have ended, I thought you can still use the 40% card if it hasn't been redeemed on a processor yet? There's no more cards being issued but I thought Emo is still honoring the ones that are out there.

No longer is Emotiva offering the 40% off discount card or new members into the DFL. This is all to the best of my memory. Its usually pretty good.
