Wouldn't it make sense to have balanced Zone 2 outputs if this is SOTA.
This is where XLR balanced shines - long cable runs.

{snip} First is, 7.1.4 analog inputs (or even just 7.1). I don't believe Oppo has released any pictures yet of what their new 4K Blu-ray player is going to look like, but I'm expecting that their top of the line unit will have such outputs. Maybe not, but Oppo has always done a good thorough job of over loading their players with output options. I think it would be a shame if they did in fact make their player have such outputs, only for processors to not have the inputs. Perhaps with your inside information you either know or can find out what Oppo is doing in this regard. Or perhaps the .4 part of it isn't ever going to be supported by anyone. At this point I'm just speculating. But I can't imagine they will abandon 7.1. {snip} If you read up on how Dirac Unison uses a MIMO approach (as opposed to SIMO), I think you will start to see why multichannel analog inputs are gone: diracdocs.com/ISEAT15_Brannmark_Sternad.pdf

Please, someone briefly explain "S.O.T.A." I have no idea what that means nor understand how does it apply here. What is the advantage?
Thx in advance

If it is essentially a computer, could configurable highpass and lowpass filters been added for each channel? Therefore I could run my 5.4 system fully active without the need for any external DSPs. I guess the market is too small and this will never happen, but one can dream... Also some kind of App / Webinterface would be nice for PEQ-configuration via tablet / smartphone / PC / Mac.For the application the RMC-1 is intended in dedicated home theaters. To be S.O.T.A. it would at least have to have some way to connect and control it with some to the room control and management systems. Some sort of Tablet, iOS, Android, computer control would have to be implemented. I would least prefer computer. Frankly, I'd prefer to see a Bluetooth connected tablet included with he RMC-1 instead of the "self defense weapon"-esque brick remotes common with other Emotiva products. I mean, the brick remotes are impressive, but in use and practical purposes, not so much. (See, I learned an new acronym and used it in a sentence too!!! )

Not ridiculous at all to me. All those old video inputs are a bit redundant, but the rest is great. It's closer to flagship material than the RMC-1 as shown. I have a feeling the new Outlaw processor will be one to watch for. Their latest processors offer both the best of the new and the old. Even their 975 offers a lot, especially for the money. Their new flagship is on the way....and for a lot less than $5k Do you have any information on the Outlaw processor? A new processor from Outlaw has been rumored for years but there is no information about it at all as far as I could find.

Their new flagship is on the way....and for a lot less than $5k Do you have any information on the Outlaw processor? A new processor from Outlaw has been rumored for years but there is no information about it at all as far as I could find. There are discussions over in the Outlaw "Saloon" in regards to the upcoming processor. I know it has recently been posted that Outlaw is not a licensee for Dolby Atmos so I would assume that is part of their new platform. Here is one of the posts: Fellow Outlaws, Those of you who have been following the news from CES have probably seen the Outlaws mentioned in announcements from some of the major technology companies in the audio and home theater world. In brief, we have added some additional items to our next processor beyond those already announced which include Dolby Atmos in a 7.2.4 configuration, HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 and premium, audiophile-grade components. The Outlaws are one of the first licensees for the new DTS: X technology making it possible for us to give you native decoding for both major object-based audio formats. At this time it is too early say if DTS:X will be available at product launch or as a no-charge upgrade shortly after production; as the timing for receiving and integrating the firmware is largely in the hands of DTS and our DSP supplier. Our new processor will also include HD-Radio to take terrestrial radio reception to the highest possible quality level along with delivery of additional content not available with traditional tuners. HD-Radio will be part of this exciting new product from the first shipment. To make all of this possible we have beefed up the processors DSP section to include two of the most powerful audio DSPs available along with additional high-speed memory. Thanks to a new, exclusively Outlaw, hardware platform developed by our teams and manufactured under our total control, we have the flexibility to offer these innovations without worrying about outside forces. Both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X require more than just DSP and memory, as the hardware must accommodate the additional output channels and their DACs. Therefore, it is not possible to update existing products such as the Model 975 to add them. However, when the new processor becomes available we will offer an attractive program to recognize the loyalty of our existing customers when they purchase the new model. It is now time for the Outlaws to return to a quiet period as it is simply too soon to comment further on the rest of the feature list, the price or the availability date. As weve all learned, predicting a release date at this point is not appropriate. This is mostly due to deliverables from outside sources and suppliers that are not yet available and whose delivery date is outside of our control. These key firmware components must not only be in our hands, they must then be integrated into the product, tested internally and then certified. Therefore, any target date we set now would be subject to change; it is just too early to say when the processor will ship. That will happen only when everything is complete and meets not only our own standards and those of our technology licensors and partners, but also the most important quality test: your performance expectations. Well update you along the way as progress allows, but beyond these first two announcements we cant answer any other questions at this time. We thank you for your support not only in the past year, but for the past 15 years that the Outlaws have been the innovator in direct-to-consumer home audio products. Along with the new processor, we are hard at work on other products. Indeed, one will be announced within the next few weeks. Rest assured, that in 2015 and for the years ahead, at Outlaw Audio, The Best Values in Home Theater are Just a Mouse-Click Away

That Outlaw update was dated 1/21/2015, and they did have another update after this one dated 1/25/2016, but I digress talking about their processor, since this is an Emotiva RMC-1 processor thread.

Since the RMC-1 has fully balanced circuitry, does anyone know if the new XPA Gen3 amps are fully balanced also?

Wouldn't it make sense to have balanced Zone 2 outputs if this is SOTA. This is where XLR balanced shines - long cable runs. I believe the thinking is here most of the time people buying gear like this have a single equipment stack in the house. The second zone amp is within feet of the processor and then speaker wire is run to the speakers in the second zone. Not that they don't exist, but I've never seen a second zone have the amp at the location at the end of a long RCA cable run. I've always seen the amp near the processor and then speaker wire run. Please speaker wire is smaller in diameter to run to the second location. Makes install easier.

A 2-channel system and a HT system. With slack it would be a 40ft run. 40ft is too long for RCA IMO. What I wish I could do is slave my XMC-1 to my XSP-1 using XLR. This also has the advantage of setting the volume independently in the room that has the system. It also would be great powering a pair of AirMotiv powered speakers.

Any one should tell.. when we expect RMC/XMR-1 in our homes..? There is no timetable at this point. And this is Emotiva, and we are talking about a processor, so experience tells us to be patient. Very patient. This said, it is definitely in development. How do we know? If you go to the very first page of this thread, you will see that the image that started this thread is of a screenshot rendering of the back panel. Emotiva may not even have a physical prototype yet. Also, Big Dan has chimed in with a few extra details in this thread. LCSeminole was given a tour of Emotiva and shown some of the yet to be announced, and yet to be introduced products that are coming out. You'll find threads discussing each of these elsewhere. What he posted was only what he was given permission to post. Evidently, there is more. See this thread below for more on that tour: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/47907/aug-2016-visit-emotiva-headquartersBottom line: Emotiva really does have a lot of new products and quite a few surprises coming out. They have been very busy.

It also would be great powering a pair of AirMotiv powered speakers. I agree in either case it's a long run. But most second systems controlled by a single processor are not dedicated for high end audio, they are playing background music or something in an adjoining room or back deck area. And those systems likely have an amp a few feet away and longer speaker wires which are MUCH easier to run through walls that larger RCA cables, let alone XLR cables. Again, I realize what YOU may want or need, but to semi-quote Lonnie earlier in this thread, you can't build the perfect unit for everyone. The RMC-1 gives you second zone audio outputs and if used, the vast majority of people will have an amp near the RMC and run speaker wires. The idea of drilling holes large enough to run long XLR cables in a wall would make me think, "I'll buy a second preamp. No worries about long cable runs, drilling holes, trying to control a unit in another room and now I have the ability to see a display and touch buttons of a dedicated preamp in the room of my secondary system." I'm not saying I'm right or you are wrong. I'm simply saying I believe that is how the majority of systems are setup and why Emotiva did what they did.
