A good sign...the XMC-1 page on emotiva.com shows the new HDMI board and the Atmos/DTS-X board as imminent...the RMC-1 relies on those, so...hopefully we'll hear more on the RMC-1 in the next few months!

A good sign...the XMC-1 page on emotiva.com shows the new HDMI board and the Atmos/DTS-X board as imminent...the RMC-1 relies on those, so...hopefully we'll hear more on the RMC-1 in the next few months!

Do you mean, more imminent than the "Q4 2017" / "Q1 2018" that have been on the page for a while now? Is there something new that I'm not seeing there? Don't toy with my emotions, man...

I do not think I am the only one that can say this:  I finally gave up on this "maybe, maybe not" hardware illusion.  I purchased a Marantz 7703 Pre.  I figured that I could use this until or if the RMC-1 ever actually appears out the vapor and is for sale.  That was a mistake.  The 7703 is so good (and so much cheaper) I can not see me changing to any other preamp in the near future.

Patience can last only so long, before reality sets in.

I got my 40% off card so I'm just waiting for it to drop 😁👍. I had an idea the other day. There are some unused slots on the back of the RMC-1 at the top. I wonder if they could put in five more XLR connections for Auro3D. That way one could have LFH, RFH, LSH, RSH and VOG in their proper locations (7.1.4.1) in addition to 9.1.6 Atmos. This way one could be wired and amped properly for Auro3D and Atmos and the correct speakers would be matrixed depending on what one was watching and whether one wanted to use Auromatic or Dolby Surround upmixer. This way the RMC-1 will have 21 XLR outputs but only 16 could be processed at any one time.

Yes that 40% off is a great incentive to wait isn't it ;seems to supply patience as well Nice option that xlr retrofit ; it would certainly be a great idea for Auro3d as Denon etc compromise speaker placement with auro's height speakers

Surround Height speakers won't work for Dolby Atmos as they aren't defined in Atmos specification.

Movies aren't going to be made with Auro; screw Auro, it's only useful for music if you like unnatural and unintended stretched, manipulated, artificial sound and you are too lazy to install a proper Dolby Atmos system. Please give me 7.2.6 Atmos capability before Marantz, Denon, Arcam, Accurus. and every other component manufacture on earth does.

If the music is recorded/mastered with Auro in mind then it's quite natural, it's as the artist intended. Playing it in stereo would be unnatural.

I have read that Auro can sound fantastic if done right. In fact better than any other means of listening to music. Just what I have read on the internet. And we all know that everything on the internet is absolutely true. Hehe

Wilfried: The Auro-3D speaker layouts are designed with a hierarchy in mind, meaning that we start with Auro 8.0 as the most efficient true 3D audio system. In order to achieve full backwards compatibility, we advise consumers at home to choose the Auro 9.1 system. Of course, for fly-overs and special effects, the addition of an overhead ceiling speaker (Auro 10.1) makes sense, but as already stated before, it is not necessary in smaller theaters. This third layer is treated as a mono channel in order to create the best scalability and largest sweet spot. In combination with the Height layer, this creates a very wide stereo field.

Interestingly he acknowledges the compromise of using a one size fits all 5.1.4 atmos spec ; optimisation is very appealing at the RMC1 price point to me especially when you have 16channels at your disposal I remember that Dan said auro 3d would be an option ; if so it would be nice to take advantage having read similar things to what rhale64 alludes

Audioholics: Is there one unified speaker layout that would be compatible with Auro, Atmos and DTS UHD? If so, how many speakers would that involve and in what layout scheme?

Wilfried: In order to maintain cross-platform compatibility, we would suggest the Auro 9.1 which is 5.1 bottom + four Height speakers located 30° above the ear-level front speakers. This is close to the 5.1.4 format from Dolby, with the difference being that the angle to the listening position of the ceiling speakers will be closer to around 50° to 60°. This is a significant difference, and Auro-3D native productions could sound funny because reflections and source sounds mixed on 30° elevation for the Height channels won’t sound quite right being reproduced at around 50 to 60°. But if people install the Auro-3D speaker layout, they can playback Auro-3D content properly and due to Dolby's and DTS's claim that their object-based technology allows them a wide range of speaker layouts, an Auro 9.1 layout should provide good results there as well.
