Thanks, I didn't know that! Got my learn on! I posted the back of these three units on purpose Nick. I wanted to see if anyone noticed they are all the same. Cheaper to supply multiple manufacturers with the same basic exterior for all involved. our Kia has the same subframe and such as the Hyundia but are different companies. Recently Hyundia repurchased stock sold to Kia.. The interiors are very different and the ride and engineering around the frames are different.

Emotiva, scratch the BasX MC-700 with Emo-Q and scratch the Emersa EMP-1 with Dirac.
Build a minimal preamp processor based on the XMC-1 processor and operating system that can be mixed and matched with the BasX and X-Series amps. Do it for under $1000.

Makes business sense to spend money on R&D and then just scratch them without selling them because one person on an internet forum wants something else.

Which part of the XMC1 would you like cut out to make this scaled down version. We know the HDMI costs around $400-500 as that is how much its going to cost to upgrade the HDMI board to all HDMI2.0a. Where exactly are you finding another 1k in savings?
You say you only want 5.1 but I'm not sure a company these days would build anything smaller then 7.1 and the XMC1 is 7.2 so not a huge savings there by only having one sub output. You would still need the DAE-7D DSP board, analog RCA aggregation board, the USB/ SPDIF board as it has the Xilinx Programmable Logic Controller on-board which does the routing, and the Ethernet/ 12V trigger board. If you didn't want stereo reference the AXMC-1 Rev D PC board could be slightly different as you wouldn't need the PCM1502 DACs but rest would be the same.
So you want a pre/pro that is almost identical to the XMC1 under the hood for $1000, I don't personally run a business and anybody who sold a unit like that probably wouldn't for very much longer.

The Emersa EMP-1 with Dirac is $1000. It is a minimal XMC-1. That's what I want. I thought I would be nice and suggest that they could sell more if it had the looks to mix and match like they intend the BasX to do. They have already done the Cirrus logic with EMO-Q. They spent a lot of time and money designing the XMC-1. The XMC-1 Texas Instrument with Dirac has proven to perform better than the UMC-1 design. That platform has a record of being very buggy. All the benefits of the XMC-1 are in the EMP-1 including previously mentioned ease of software updates. Ok, Emotiva don't scratch anything. I will let you do what you want.

And Onkyo bought Pioneer's home theater line 2 years ago, so all three companies are the same. It's no secret that Integra and Onkyo products are the same. They are just marketed differently. The Integra line is not sold retail and is for installers. That Pioneer is different internally, because it has MCACC, not AccuEQ. The rest of the hardware is very similar, however.
