I heard they are hiring boomzilla to replace Lonnie, and instead of new gear, they will rebuild old Heathkit's and Sears gear. Mark I'm packing up my desk as I type. Hey, I just found the Twinkies I bought a few years ago. Imagine that, they still look new. Lonnie Wow. I love Twinkies. Amazing sugary snack. Grew up with Twinkies, and Ding Dongs. I am amazed I didn't go into diabetic shock from them. Pop Tarts go forever too.

Brats and beer. I miss that. I grew up in Germany as a child and later travelled through there quite a bit on business. Nobody does brats and beer better then the Germans. IMO Lonnie

That was my dessert for lunch each day and I'd so much look forward to that. Maybe that's why I wore "husky" size pants back in elementary school. Fondly remember that squiggle on top of the frosting.

Can I turn the Question on it's head? Has Emotiva EVER been Hi-End? The world is replete with 1000$ preamps (stereo) and 2500$ to 5000$ integrated amps. Not to mention used 30 watt mono blocs that go for around 3000$ or more. New? LOTS. To get to the XPA level of power in a Mc or Pass or Spectron or Sound Labs, you'll be into it for 3x to 10x the $$$.
Emo lives in the world of Mid-Fi. Not as snobby as 'real' (note quotes) Hi-End, but with 90% of the performance and a fraction of the price, what's NOT to like?
People with REAL jobs and expenses live here. Lots of us. Probably never be rich but want a good sounding system, nontheless.

Well, I can say that I took my Emotiva gear into a high end store to audition speakers, and the salesman was left wishing they could sell Emotiva gear (they now are a dealer). And, to my ear, my emotiva amp, preamp, and ERC-2 combo sounded far better than their demo gear...which is why I took my gear in. I thought I liked the Maggies I ended up buying, but something was missing with their gear. They came to kife with my emo gear. High end? Mid-fi? What is a name? Damn good is how it sounded. Mark

I heard a pair of XPA-100 the entry level mono bloc driving a pair of 7000$ speakers. This was a manufacturers demo in a friends house. NO SHAME possible. And none of the 35 or so listeners who cycled thru the room complained ONE BIT. The amps which were SUPPOSED to be shown with the speakers? A PAIR of monos which RETAIL for a jaw dropping 54,000$ one of which FAILED TO light up.
It's OK not to be 'High End'. Hi-end is, IMO a LOT about sheer cost which starts somewhere NORTH of Profane.
Too bad the 1.7 Maggies can't (easily) be biamped. My 1.6s responded well to a stereo amp PER SPEAKER.

Mark IMO - price alone does not determine if something is 'high end'. To me, high end implies 'high performance' and 'high style' too. It depends on the individual to weigh the three factors as to which to balance or emphasize in their concept of 'high end'. I don't think the traditional Emotiva gear is drop dead attractive, but it is handsome. The performance of the Emotiva gear is, in my mind, without question. The price for a lot of it is out of my reach, but not all of it. Thus to me Emotiva products are "affordable high-end", even if I cannot afford all of them.

I, for one do believe that Emotiva has competed in the HiFi realm of audio! The XPR Series of amps to name three! The XMC-1 gen 3 or RMC will hopefully be THERE,! XSP-1 is dang close IMHO ! But these are only my thoughts with NO consideration of cost but of SQ. TO REITERATE; the XPR series has SQ full quad differential and looks!! Top End Gear at a real world price, thanks Emotiva!! Now, bring us the world class look with a pre pro or pre amp!!

Well, Axis, it is NOT 'nonsense' to talk about cost benefit VS perception. Everyone decides where on the 'curve' they find a decrease in value for increase in spending. These days? MidFi Electronics is very good indeed. You sacrifice SOME of the stuff performance oriented folks don't need. The 1/2" thick billet milled aluminum faceplate anodized and buff finish. The best MidFi sacrifices A LITTLE to the best of the best. And it's not FEATURES, like Quad Balanced or whatever. It is EXECUTION, VOICING and QUALITY PARTS.
If you were some stinkin' rich Zillionaire, you'd own a decicated room, designed by a consultant with ALL the top stuff. Your 'diet' would in all probability change to match your wealth.
Some gear from the past, for example is HIGHLY sought after. Some early Marantz. Pass designed Threshold amps / Stasis. Some 'classic' Mcintosh. Original Magnepan Tympani speakers. KLH 9 speakers. Who knows what else? Sometimes it gets a little nutty like when word spread that the ORIGINAL Sony PlayStation was a wonderful CD player. Boy, was THAT a deal!
And yes, it is to some degree sheer snobbery that defines 'high end' from 'midfi'. Sometimes the state-of-the-art appears to advance so rapidly that yesterdays 'best' is easily eclipsed by regular stuff today. This seems to happen regularly with DACs.
I'm not at all ashamed to say I own well-chosen MidFi. Emotiva maybe high-end, but mainly if you are coming from HTIB or after listening to the neighbors boombox.

At the time, I had an XSP-1 (1st gen), an XPA-2 gen 1, and the ERC-2. I also took in my Paradigm Ultracube 10 sub so I could see how the suband Maggies paired. And, I took about 20 of my favorite test CD's! Mark
