Hi Everyone, I recently had an opportunity to listen to an incredible audio/video technology that has actually been around for a few years, but seems to be seldom ever implemented: Asynchronous HDMI. The implementation I heard was in an older Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi receiver, and Pioneer calls their implementation, PQLS (Precision Quartz Lock System). For an explanation, check out this short (1:36) video: Pioneer AV Receivers - PQLS ExplainedHaving played with a wide gamut of high-end coax cables, TOSLINK cables, USB cables, and HDMI cables previously, this technology really seems like a game changing "Holy Grail", because it produces the best audio quality I have ever heard, while also making the quality of the cable irrelevant. This is new to me, so I wonder: have any of you heard of Asynchronous HDMI, or actually heard the technology itself, and if so, what do you think of it!? Thank you!

Having the audio timing linked to the video source clock is not very good Heres a precis from Charles Hansen ; CEO of Ayre the upmarket manufacturer. The xmc1 is more jitter proof than most any ce if they even let you know whats going on jitter wise www.audioasylum.com/forums/pcaudio/messages/8/82566.htmlArcam is one other I would trust ; they refused to use hdmi for a few years because of hdmi's high jitter ; only allowing video switching ; no audio decoding

You have to keep a lot of this stuff in perspective.... Over the years, there have been all sorts of "new and exciting proprietary technologies" - most of them not quite as exciting as their creators would like you to think. (And many of them simply cool names for existing technologies, or for minor variants on them, whose main virtue is how cool they sound.) Phase lock loops - and variants on them - have been around for a very long time.... they're still used in some places, and have been superseded in others. For example, PLLs are still used in S/PDIF inputs on DACs, but have mostly been replaced by asynchronous USB on the USB inputs (asynch USB is superior, but can ONLY be used for USB). As it so happens, we re-clock the audio in the XMC-1 between stages using an ASRC - which removes the jitter (if there was any to begin with). The old Sony xa5400es sacdp have this feature with a diff name
But their corresponding AVRs now are mainly entry to at most mid level now.
Denon Link is of the similar idea. That is a better combo
There is no standard thus most if not all are proprietary, thus u need to pair with the same brand of players and avr/prepro
Which is a shame.
