Okay, having a minor issue with my XDA-2 Gen.2.
When using it with my Sony Bluray player while playing a DVD/Bluray, I'll either get a click sound and the beginning of a track or a continuous screeching digital sound (No other audio). This is nothing new as it's been happening since day one. I'm just now getting to this LOL
This does not happen when I play CD's or use the Bluray players streaming features like Netflix, Pandora, etc. If I switch my preamp over to the analog input from the player, the audio works just fine. Digital out from my CD player also functions normally.
Am I missing a setting or do you think it's possibly a system incompatibility?

If not, the XDA-2 may not recognize the format.

I think I can tell you what's going on..... The XDA-2 is a STEREO PCM DAC - which means that it can play stereo digital audio signals but NOT digitally encoded signals (like Dolby Digital or DTS). The signal recorded on a CD is a stereo PCM digital audio signal - which is what the XDA-2 is designed to play - so it works fine. However, the signal on most DVD or Blu-Ray discs is going to be a digitally encoded surround sound signal - which the XDA-2 is NOT designed to play. When you get that tick - and then nothing - the XDA-2 has recognized that it is unable to play what you're feeding it and simply muted. You get the screech when the XDA-2 receives a signal that the XDA-2 THINKS it recognizes, but can't play (but it doesn't know enough to mute). (You probably get silence with Dolby Digital signals, but may get the screech with certain DTS encoded signals - you're hearing the actual undecoded signal.) Most streaming services use their own proprietary formats - but then decode it to standard PCM digital audio (which the XDA-2 likes). Many Blu-Ray players have an option somewhere in the menu that allows you to pick between "send digital audio as bitstream' or "send digital audio as PCM". If your player has that option, and you set it to PCM, then it should work normally and play the music. The option might also be something like "send digital audio to output" or "decode digital audio in player" If those are your options, then you will want to pick "decode digital audio in player". I thought down mixing would be enough. It MIGHT be time for an upgrade... As always, thanks for the help Keith.

The Bluray player had an option to down mix both DTS and Dolby Digital to PCM. All is good now! Thank you!

Hey Keith what's the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2?
I'm almost certain my silver rack ear plate model is Gen 1.
