The purpose of biwiring is to prevent the magnetic field produced by the woofer current from modulating the magnetic field produced by the tweeter current. It has nothing to do with back EMF, impedance, etc. and it only works if the two wires are separated by an inch or so. Quad cable will not work.

Chuck Hawks biwiring paragraph could not be any more wrong. The two cables in a biwiring setup have completely different signals (current) flowing in them. Simple electrical theory I = E/Z.

To those who properly attended physics class during highschool, it most definitely matches the description of a bi-wiring cable. But it's also called an inductor that consists of four windings, albeit the two black windings are hooked up to eachother at the amp's negative binding post, while the two white ones are hooked up to eachother at this same amp's positive binding post. At the speaker terminals, none of the windings are hooked up to any one of the other windings nevertheless. Bi-wiring can be done with straight wires too, which is naturally obvious, but our friend Faraday found out that wound wires tend to behave a little different so I thought I should mention.

It's obvious that Faraday never biwired if you attended four years of undergraduate engineering school and one year of graduate engineering school. But I guess mentioning is OK even though it won't work.

Whoever designed this Bi-Wiring cable has missed the whole point of Bi-Wiring. The idea is to keep the two current paths isolated. That requires two separate cables, several inches apart. The wire depicted will induce capacitive as well as inductive coupling.

Once again, all should be reminded that the ONLY reason we have wires to connect loudspeakers to the system is because the speakers cannot be sitting ON TOP OF THE AMPLIFIER!! So....we have a bit of wire (he he!) to give us some distance away. So long as wires are needed to connect....the snake oil salesman and theorists will continue to have a field day.

I have used several styles of bi-wired cables including cables with different gauges of wire for Hi/Lo frequencies and totally separate pairs of cables they all worked well but my cables made with Mogami quad wire have truly been the best I have ever used that brought out detail like no others.

Isn't the real benefit of bi-wiring is that you have reduced the gauge of the wire by 3. So if you hear a difference you probably should have been using thicker wire in the beginning

So we have to ask what magic recipe is used to soup up what's going on in the wiring that makes up the distance with those puppies? Bill

personally with my xpa 1 gen 1 mono blocks i can set up my speaker shoot gun style .. sonic nirvana ..
thats 2 cables for each amp and speaker.... black on one side .. red on the other side .. complete separation...
cheers...

Bill The world is flat, bees can't fly?, and the sky isn't blue...... really? Sorry but wires do have an effect on the sound and can effect sound quality. If you cannot hear it and have done any real kind of comparing I feel sorry for you, your hearing may not be as good as it can be. Telling me wires have no effect on sound is the same as telling me the sky is not blue or the world is flat, I know better, I can hear the differences, some wires can sound better than others, they can effect clarity, brightness or warmth and both speaker cables and interconnects can have an impact on the overall sound of the system, is it a night and day difference? no, is it real yes, just as real as room acoustics. Yes there is a lot of snake oil in cable marketing, that does not mean cables have no impact on sound. If someone has no interest in pursuing the differences in wire and cables I can completely understand, but don't try to tell me cables cannot make any difference at all as I know better.

Here's to what works and what doesn't:

BTW those silly posters from 20 some years ago where you stare at them and relax your eyes or something until you can see an image somewhere in the middle. I could stare at one of those forever and I will never see the image you are supposed to be able to see. That does not mean the image is not there it's just that my eyes are not capable of seeing it. Can anyone see what is in this? I know what you are supposed to be able to see.

Isn't the real benefit of bi-wiring is that you have reduced the gauge of the wire by 3. So if you hear a difference you probably should have been using thicker wire in the beginning bi wiring does not change the gauge of the cable.. lets say you have a 14awg quad cable.. and set it up for bi wire the amp end would be 11awg but right after its is 14awg all the way to the speaker.. now if you made both ends like the amp end then you would have a 11awg cable.. etc.. see pics both are made with 14awg 4c
