Just got the AK70 and the thing sounds amazing. It drives my Oppo PM-2 wonderfully and the Jaybird X3s sound very nice with the bluetooth connection. The Wifi makes it able to send music wirelessly to my Oppo 203 to play through the system or to pull music from my NAS. Tidal is also available along with Moov and Groovers. The form factor is great for right hand use but a little less so for left hand use. And it also functions as a great little DAC with a USB connection to my laptop. Now the AK Jr I just bought also sounds wonderful but the lack of WiFi and and the fact it won't function as a DAC with USB3 while using a 64bit OS made the upgrade to the AK70 hard to resist. Very happy with it so far.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but for occasional use , like only a couple times a year would the AK Jr be the right move at $264? It would seem that the AK70 is superior in all ways, but $600 is double the price.

It would seem that the AK70 is superior in all ways, but $600 is double the price. The jr sounds remarkably good and some even prefer it to the AK70. It's biggest downfalls are no WiFi and it will not function as a DAC when connected to USB3 ports on machines running 64bit versions of Windows. Some also say the interface is slow to respond but I never had a problem with it. If those things don't matter to you it's a great little DAP well worth the price.

Honestly I want it for mowing the grass (with noise isolating in-ear monitors) and the week I go on vacation. I pledged for a Geek Wave years ago, but at this point have zero faith that I'll get it. If I do eventually get one I could compare the two and move one on. I am fairly certain I am going to pull the trigger on the Jr. Thanks for responding.

Mowing the grass is something I still use the jr for because it's so slim and fits easily into a pocket. I use some Sony XBA-H1 hybrid IEMs with Comply isolating tips and the sound is better than you would think it ever could be just by looking at it.

Ak jr will be here Saturday. It will miss my mowing this week, but next week it will get the job. I also got a 128gb micro sd card so my whole library will fit on it.

I found it's much faster to move files directly to the SD card using a computer and then plugging it into the player and let it index the files.

It's only on USB 2.0, but 128GB most likely is the majority like 90% and their is plenty I can skip moving. I'm actually excited , it's been a rough several weeks.

Even at USB-2 rates it would be faster than using the jr as a storage device. For only a few songs it's okay but I wouldn't want to copy several gigs that way. Let us know how you like it.

I am very impressed with the AK jr. But since I have been having my Tascam DR-100 mk.3 doing double duty with 128 gb SDXC card, it has all the music I want plus it is a go anywhere recorder too. Bulkier than an AK for sure. But it is always ready to capture the moment at 192k, 24 bit if I want it too. Attachment Deleted

I just got this today in the mail. Library being copied over to micro SD card. Should take about an hour. Also have the JR on a charger. Can't wait to try it out.

A quick update. The AK Jr sounds really good. It is every bit as enjoyable as my regular stereo. I am using a pair of AKG K550 headphones.. Also Amazon dropped the price $25 the day after I bought it.. So at $250 as a much better iPod for FLAC it is well worth it. Gapless does not seem to work. Not a huge issue for me generally, certainly not a deal breaker for me. First album I tried was Dark Side of the Moon, so it breaks it up a bit, but it has literally been months since I listened to a gapless album.

I just tried gapless with David Gilmour's On an Island and the transition from Castellorizon to On an Island play perfectly with no gap. I have the CD on the internal storage of the jr as FLAC files 44.1kHz 16bit. I was using wired IEMs.
