I wanted to ask if anyone has any recommendations on a good FM/AM outdoor antenna for my XMC-1. I enjoy certain radio stations in my car that I am not able to pickup indoors with the XMC-1 when I get home. I tried a powered terk fm/am antenna from fry's electronics but it still was not able to pickup a certain radio station that I can pickup in my car that is in the driveway. I even went to radio shack and could find any outdoor antenna's so I will resort to the internet. Currently, I am looking in the wineguard hd-6010 FM antenna so that I can mount on the backyard and run a coax all the way into the house and if this will work, what can I do about AM? Any suggestions?

For FM its relatively easy to find a good antenna - get on Craig's List and it's likely you can find one f. Old analog tv signals used frequencies that were very close to FM radio. Find a decent old tv antenna and you're in business. I've had an Antenna Craft FM6 antenna for maybe 10 years mounted on a rotator. With a good FM tuner I was able to pick up stations 50 miles and more away easily and they were listenable.

Thanks for the replies. The MD 90 tuner looks great and perhaps in the future I can upgrade if an upgraded antenna doesn't fix the issue. For now, I am going to start off with the Magnum Dynalab ST-2 FM antenna since it looks like this company makes the best tuners in the market and I want to use the XMC tuner. I still need to do some research if i will need to get a 75 ohm adapter for the XMC or if it's included.

Honestly, if you are going down the path of eventually spending that much on a tuner, just buy a Sonos connect and get a tuner and much, much more. Really...you will get all your local FM and AM and anything on the net (including global radio stations) and anything you rip to a NAS...and superb ease of use and you can run digital out to your xmc to use the xmc dac's for great sound. Mark Thanks, I will keep the Sonos connect in mind. I think that I am going to go with the Universal Indoor-Outdoor AM/FM/HD Antenna DXE-AFHD-4 because if I am going to go through the trouble of mounting an antenna to the roof, make a hole to the house in order to feed the Cat 6 cable, and route the cable to the xmc-1; I might as well get AM to go with that. The M-D ST-2 looks like a good sure enough investment but it does not have AM. I hope that I will not regret my decision. www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=AFHD-4

Look into it before you spend $129 just for an antenna. Please...you will not regret it! And you won't have to mount an antenna on the roof. Mark

Ps...if there is something holding you back from Sonos over your solution, let me know. I was skeptical before but I bought into Sonos and now have 8 zones. It is awesome. And no, I have no ownership stake...just a very happy owner!

The advantage of living in a country where everyone needs an antenna for television is most houses here have antennas on the roof that also work for FM

Known as a Combination Yaggi. Might just do the trick. Mounted high, on a rotator is ideal. Used mine allot when I used to listen to FM. Another thought. Allot of Radio Station Simulcast their Broadcast on the Internet so you may stream with ease without the bother of an antenna at all.

I have a Winegard tv antenna on the peak of my roof that I mounted twenty six years ago and use that for tv OTA as well as FM on my XMC-1. Works great.
The internet solution with Sonos or even better, Bluesound is also wonderful, but there is something fun about bringing in FM over the air.

I wish FM content were better and I'd find an old tuner. At least here in SoCal there are only MayBe 2 stations I listen to. One is an oldies station, the other good rock. But everything else is playlisted / programmed / taped. I sort of wish it sounded better, too.
Does anybody have a Really Good FM station they'd like to plug? maybe I could find it online?
