A lot of real estate on and a lot of material in the manual supporting the XMC-1 (and most other processors and receivers) are devoted to the tuner section. Just wondering how many of you actually listen to radio? It's been years for me.

I hooked up an antenna just to check it out, and it worked. Emotiva added RDS, which was a very nice addition.
However, there isn't an HD tuner, which surprised me, but I understand.
After checking it out, I disconnected the antenna - I never used it.

Aside from a few hours per month of terrestrial AM in the car, all my "radio" listening is via internet streams apps. I really don't miss messing with an antenna.

With a traditional FM tuner, zero "in home" usage for me. Now if they employed HD Radio tuners, my usage might be quite different. The difference in audio quality between traditional FM and HD Radio is night and day and definitely worth whatever difference in cost there might be. The system in my car receives HD Radio (as well as traditional broadcasts) and that's mostly what I listen to. Even compared to the best SiriusXM broadcasts, HD Radio is significantly better.

Well this is somewhat true. XM radio always sounded not so great in my car depending on the channel Content. FM non HD in my car sounds worse. Most of the time news is all I use for FM. AM is not used. I never use a tuner at home. I stream everything.

I listen to the radio in my car. I don't think I've used a tuner in the house since the early 80's.

I will not go without a good long range AM and FM radio. The performance of a Tuner is everything. I have a C.Crane CC Radio-2E that on a good night I can listen to things all over the World. You can output analog stereo that sounds very good through my Emotiva USP-1 and 2-channel system. Just saying.

Better sound out there EVERYWHERE.

Well I am partial to NPR on the radio. Also occasionally listen to local talk shows and rarely even music stations. I don't fuss much with the quality though as mostly it's background music when I'm busy doing other things... or sometimes watching a game but can't stand those stupid commentators.. always saying the obvious: Wow.. I didn't now that! Ruthless fellows.. taking advantage of a weaker defense! Really? He just homered for the 2nd time this game.
Nah, lemme just watch the game and listen to some tunes!

Seriously Sinatra and Symphony Hall sound very good on XM Radio. I'm guessing a 256k bit rate. And Jonathan Schwartz WNYC 93.9 FM is great if you love the Great American Songbook. NPR on FM has many interesting shows throughout the day. The XMC tuner does a good job.

Spot on for me. I haven't listened to broadcast radio in the home for over ten years. I either use the SONOS app to select whatever world-wide radio station I want, or say "Alexa, play <station of choice>.
I must admit I was surprised to see how much Manuel/remote control real estate on the XMC-1 was dedicated to a feature I never use.
Personally, I'd love to see a great XMC-1 native local media mount from NAS feature (Emotiva, you're using a Linux kernel - this is trivial as the code is already built into the kernel) rather than a tuner. Emotiva engineers, feel free to ping me if you ever want to implement this (this is my day job :-).

Other than Sirius XM in the car I have been tuner free for about ten years. If I were to want to listen to any FM broadcast or anything I would use my ipod/iphone and use the Tune In Radio app. No static or interference and crystal clear sound

I listen to WTSM(97.9) the local ESPN sports talk show on a daily basis, especially since it keeps me up to date on the Florida State Seminole sports teams.

In Spain the FM band is sooooo congested and the quality is rubbish.
When I was looking to buy the XMC-1 I saw it had a tuner and thought "I wonder if I can reassign that button". I bought it and I can't. I've never bothered hooking up the antenna.

I use the AM tuner in the UMC-200 occasionally, it's there and so I use it, mostly for sports commentary when I can't stand the TV commentators, which happens often. If it wasn't there I probably wouldn't worry, I'd still mute the TV commentators and listen to some music instead.
Cheers Gary

The tuner may eventually become redundant if the world migrates to dab+ ; as Norway has just done . Now if a decent bitrate digital service [NO 48kbps ] takes over I wouldn't say no to one in the xmc2 Something like these aac codec rates that improve on F.M. ; www.astra2sat.com/radio/uk-digital-radio ;-bitrates/
