After a long absence I came back to Emotiva for several reasons. One, I love music and HT entertainment. Two, Emotiva is one of just a handful of companies that cares about a niche market that is so dear to me and others, and for that, I am grateful. I have wandered in and out of timespans with mass market products only to be disappointed repeatedly.
I had experiences in the past with the UMC-1 to which let's just say was not favorable. The UMC-200 was a big improvement but ultimately not enough of an auditory jump for me so I stuck with mid tier receivers as pre/pro's until recently. I saw a local ad for an XMC-1 and snatched it up. Frist, the unit is impressive in size and build quality. Second, the audio quality in reference stereo is very close to when I was using my Oppo 105 into a Wyred4Sound STP-SE into a Wyred4Sound MMC-5. I recently sold my preamp due to the XMC and sold the Oppo as I await the 205. Listening to the XMC via a Sony Blu Ray and using the XMC's dacs is interesting. The resolution and detail is very satisfying. I do feel that the former setup gave a smidge more detail, but not much to warrant the price difference. Again, impressive results for the XMC.
I have yet to run Dirac Full as I haven't had much time, but will do so this weekend. I look forward to the immersive experience of Blu Ray movies. I must commend Emotiva on the development of the XMC-1 and getting many things right after the previous generations of processors. I await to upgrade to the 2.0B board when it comes out, but I am VERY impressed so far. Kudos to Dan and the team.

Well. Neekos. Welcome back. Congratulations on your new XMC-1. The Processor that rocks your world in music, and does the movies amazingly. You will appreciate the XMC-1 even more once you run the Dirac completely. The XMC-1 is a real gem. Enjoy, and let us know how you get along.

Hi Neekos ; I noticed you mentioned the oppo 205 . An alternative option would be a oppo 203 ; then you can apply dirac to the multichannel digital as you know . The 205 would not have this option through the multi analog ins if you like the dirac . Only mention this to maybe save some dosh and it depends on how much store you put in the oppo's 2ch analog output . The 203's akm dacs are no slouch I hear and the analog stage is improved over the 10x series . I don't know whether your interested in dolby atmos or dts-x at all [ even just a pair of ceilings] but those multichannel 205 outs would be redundant as you need to bitstream to decode the object audio . Ignore this if your happy with 7.1 though I hasten to add Maybe too the 205 may have some additional features over the 203 like a usb input or an extra hdmi in if important . Having sold an 95 and more recently a 103d I was glad this happened before the 4k oppo turned up as the 2nd hand 2k market in Aus isn't as strong as the U.S. anecdotally Good luck with whichever you go for .

Thanks doc, I'll check these out Two of my favorites +1 on the Dave Matthews. It's awesome. Sound & Vision couldn't say enough about it, and they didn't even have anyone on staff that liked the music. Imagine not liking the music itself and still saying that's it's the best Concert Blu-ray on the planet. The recording is done so well that they basically said, "we wish all live recordings were done this way."

Hey Doc, that link for the Toto blu-ray is for Region B/2, which won't play in the US. I've been looking but can't find one for Region A/1. Where did you get yours?

February, 2015 to be exact... I gotta say, though, I think that information is innacurate. These are " sold by and ships from Amazon". I think it's possible that someone might have gotten a copy from a "third party" Amazon re-seller that may have been B/2 and the person who bought it reported it to Amazon. I can't imagine Amazon (USA) would continue to sell a product that won't work for their buyers. HERE is a link to the same title available through Best Buy.

Welcome back Neekos, I remember your name!
I believe Emotiva is on a roll these days, especially what processors are concerned. Soon there will be one for almost everyone, from $700 to $5000. Love it!
You are free to ignore the musical suggestions by the others as we all like different stuff. At this moment, I have 122,537 stereo tracks in my iTunes library for example. I like a lot of different musical styles. Thomas Dolby's "The Sole Inhabitant" [Live Martyrs Chicago 2006-05] however is completely floating my boat... No Blu-Ray though.
