I would get a regular comfortable couch or couches...If you get all those dedicated, non intimate, theater chairs facing the same direction there will be less and less interest in family members wanting to join you feeling forced to sit up-right(or reclined)in "assigned seating" That's a lot of minutia (and personal baggage) to simply say...My only advice is (from experience) don't make it an "event" to watch a movie make it comfortable for not only you but those who join you remembering that not everyone appreciates all the work and detail that we audiophiles put into our hobby, they just want to join you for a movie. TV or whatever. By the way I had dedicated theater chairs and due to the feelings described herein I removed them and put in a sectional so we can all sit together and enjoy not just a movie but also our limited time together.

Agreed. We have a couch and loveseat. Both have the handle on the seats to recline.. works great. Just my .02.

Thanks, how was the purchasing experience? How long have you had it? Can´t really tell, I´m about to pull the trigger on these, but for bonded leather is the best price I´ve seen, and also SEATCRAFT it´s a renowned brand in HTSeating

I agree, so many people are making theaters at home when it's much more comfortable to have the best of the theater but with all the comforts of home.

I had my seats custom-made at Lazy-Boy. Chose the reclining type with the backrest coming up to slightly above shoulder height (didn't want to occlude surround sound if it was any higher). They function great and look beautiful. I get compliments all the time. I have 5 in total, 3 in the back row and 2 in the front, staggered on center. I love the low profile and no levers/buttons to recline, Just a push back and it slides backwards. If you stay away from those esoteric materials they are cost effective and you get the color you want. Pic below but not the color I got. Mine is dark burgundy, almost deep claret,

There is nothing like sitting through a scary movie snuggled under a blanket or two with the wife pulling the covers over her eyes trying to hide with the kids giggling at her and then all ultimately shriek when those scary moments occurred... awesome for sure. The four of us have laughed, cheered, cried, snuggled and enjoyed each others company for years during our "movie nights" and countless big league sporting events together as a family. To be honest, it was something I hoped would never end; however, my children are now 17 (junior in HS) and 21 (out of state in college), so those days are basically over. Don't get me wrong, we still spend a great deal of time together and the three of us either visit our daughter or she comes home during breaks and or holidays, but long gone are those days of all of us snuggling together on the couch during "movie night". We're considering a "love seat" for the wife and I, with arm chairs for the rest of the seats, but my wife and I are still tossing ideas around for the dedicated space. Nothing is set in stone, so that's why I'm curious what folks are using so we can weigh all options. I'm sure one day we'll snuggle with our grand kids, but that won't happen for years to come.

My issue with ordering seats on-line is not being able to sit in them before purchasing them, so thanks for sharing!

Amen Brother! You and I are in the exact stage of our lives I to have a 17 year old son and my 20 (soon to be 21 YIKES)year old daughter is at the Air Force Academy...I could have written what you wrote! Those days are over for us as well...If I can nail my Son down for a 2 hour movie and if I can get my wife to make it 30 minutes into it without falling asleep I'm a winner! My Home Theater days are numbered, that's not saying I'm getting rid of anything or I don't enjoy it I just don't have that "I gotta' get the next______...". I am more focused on 2CH because even my Tin eared wife really enjoys sitting on the couch next to me (reading her eBook) while I spin that old vinyl and even though she makes me play "Americas Greatest Hits" OVER AND OVER AND OVER again and I wouldn't want it any other way!

Ha, I hear ya and awesome, glad to see another family that is centered and rooted in the importance of family life. Congrats and kudos to your daughter for going into the Air Force Academy and although it's not the same, our son is in the Civil Air Patrol, Air Force Auxiliary, so yea, we're somewhat similar indeed.

I bought the HTMarket Southampton model. I ended up getting 2 recliners each with two armrests. They're great. Motor recline, in-chair USB ports for charging, and, most importantly, excellent lumbar support. They're much nicer than the "high end" Berkliners we replaced. Customer service was first-rate too. The owner is active at AVS: www.avsforum.com/forum/32-theater-room-items-accessories/1749226-ht-design-theater-seating.htmlPS - DO NOT get bonded leather. DO NOT get bonded leather. DO NOT! It has a life of about 4 years (if you're lucky). It is not real leather! Do some Googling - people end up painting it when its cover starts to break away from the burlap-like fabric underneath. I bought some La-Z-Boy bonded stuff for the living room - worst purchase I ever made.

Very good to hear about their customer service and like you said, we plan to stay away from bonded leather. I've been following the thread on AVS for a while now, but wanted to see what my fellow lounge members recommend. Curious how long have you have them as some say they are a little stiff, but break in after some use.
