I purchased the Denon Dl-103 last month and I am enjoying it very much with the XPS-1. I have it set at MC/100 ohm load. The sound is awesome.
That being said, I am getting a low level hum with this combo. It is lower in level than the sound of the needle on the LP, even between tracks. But it is there and driving me a little crazy. If I switch carts on the MC setting, no hum. Same goes for MM's using the MM settings. Nice and quiet. I have switched all headshell wires and swapped headshells already.
Anybody have this combo?

It is possible that the hum is still present even with MM, as there is not as much gain used as MC. Could be a questionable Ground lead from the Turntable to the Preamplifier, or a ground loop that is causing a difference in ground potential. Do you by any chance have another Moving Coil Cartridge to try. Also, I knew Certain Grado Cartridges were suspect for Hum in certain installations. Just wondering.

I had a DL-103R, which is similar but not identical, that I used with an XPS-1. There was no hum at all.
So if there's no hum with other MC carts and also not with MM carts, your DL-103 might be broken.
