Hello,
I recently bought a 2nd gen XSP-1 for my stereo system and using it with ERC-2 and Behringer EP4000 amplifier. Amplifier will be replaced with XPA-1Ls next week. Speakers are POLK LsiM 703s.
I feel that volume is not enough and I have to increase the volume to at least -25db to hear good volume.
Is this normal? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For me, I usually keep it at -40 (with XPA-2) and I find that for most discs this is a pleasing volume level. Some discs are not as "loud" as others. My classical and acoustic discs run a softer than my rock/pop stuff. It comes down to how loud your media is recorded, the gain of your amplifier (my XPA-2 is at 32db gain), and how loud "good volume" is. For me, it's around 80db or so. If your "good volume" is 90db (and all else is the same), you'll have to turn it up louder than what I do.

Wow guys how can you even hear your system. I normally have mine set at -15 and on very well recorded and engineered media I go down to -5. YMMV

It depends. Make sure your outputs are set to full range if you are not running a subwoofer. And after that it's not unusual to turn the volume up to the level you had. FWIW, I've had it turned up to 0.00 during some movies.

Volume levels are very dependent on your speakers - the amp(s) - room size - and how loud you like to listen. Turn it up to where you like it and quit worrying about that number on the front display.

The Amp will have input trim potentiometers, so you may adjust the gain to what is best for your setup. The XSP-1 is behaving as designed.
Your mileage may vary relative to factors such as amplifier input sensitivity.

This is a funny, interesting thread. You made me get up out of my chair and actually look at what I was surfing the web, working on homework, what the actual volume was.. LOL. -40 with a dedicated Yamaha cd player playing, Janes Adiction and Steely Dan, switching back and forth. I turned it up to -20 and it sounded good, just too loud to study and surf at. Great stuff guys!

Don't forget the OUTPUT level of the source.
For the OP? Do you have the same issue with different sources? CD player? DVD player or small dish? Digitial input or RCA or Balanced?
