Is anyone here using the rear IR input to control their XMC-1. Are you using a TR or TRS cable and what transmitter box are you using.

I'm using a URC MX-350 box that converts RF to IR. It feeds into the rear IR port of the XMC-1 and works very smoothly. The MX also feeds other components like my Oppo. I need RF because the cabinet is located behind the seats so no direct line of sight is possible.

Actually it's TS or TRS (Tip Sleeve and Tip Ring Sleeve) also commonly referred to as mono and stereo.
A mono or TS cable is best to use but either cable should work depending on what it's connected to, generally IR uses mono type cables, although there are a few exceptions.
BTW on the XMC-1 the front IR input is disconnected when the rear 3.5mm IR input is turned ON.

I am looking for a specific recommendation for a control box , say from Xantech for example. I have messed with Irule and it works ok , i would have to add an IR2IP to get it to control other equipment. I have a cheap generic box but it refuses to work with a port to port connection and the ir emitters are just fugly.

I use a URC MX-890 remote with an MRF-350 RF/IR base station. All of my system components are connected to IR 3.5mm cables so I never need to point my remote or even be in the same room to control them.

That is one approach for sure, but the URC remotes are dealer only from what i have read. You can buy the equipment but the software is hard to get your hands on. Also i am not sure i want to invest a lot of time into programming one, i am sure i could i just dont want to. Irule is a real PITA as well, i like my harmony remote i just need to clean things up a bit if i can.

Using a Harmony Elite with it's hub connected to the back of the XMC. Works great and I no longer have to worry about pointing the remote in any specific direction and someone walking past during a remote operation has no affect at all.

Hi, I too am trying to get my XMC1 remote to work with the Universal MRF 350. I have it all set up correctly, Front IR In unchecked, a mini TRS from MRF 350's IR Output to IR Input in back of XMC 1. However, I don't know how to get the actual XMC's remote to activate/work with the MRF 350. I have the bottom dial set to 0, which didn't work, and neither did any of the other dial settings. ( I prob misunderstood what the dial settings do ) So, I think I'm real close, but could anyone please tell me how to use the XMC 's remote control with the MRF 350?
Thanks! Chris

Thanks! ChrisFirst you cannot use the 0 RF ID set it to another setting other than 0 make sure your Complete Control software and the MRF-350 are set to the same RF ID setting on Home Configure and you need to have the ports configured and matched in Home Configure and RF Control.

The main advantage is you no longer have to worry about aiming the remote in any certain direction and you can also make adjustments from another room. And as mentioned earlier, if someone walks between the operator and the equipment in the middle of a multi-command activity it won't be interrupted and throw everything out of sync. The remote communicates to the hub via RF instead of IR.
