I have to fight it to turn down to zero when I take phone call for instance. I usually just hit the power button.. With the Ego (which is a great choice) just tap the "Mute" key on the computer keyboard, no need to touch the volume control. Cheers Gary

alucard, I missed what speakers you have or getting. I have heard both the little and big ego and they both sound excellent. The A-100 is a 50 watts Gen 2 X series amp and that means it sounds excellent. Both together can be result in great sound quality and the only thing that will limit the quality will be the speakers you have. This is a desktop system from your pc from what I read. You are going to be very surprised when you put both the ego and a-100 in service with speakers that perform very well. Is that enough power for now and future speakers ?

Often times I am toggled to a laptop that shares the same monitor, keyboard, and mouse so using the volume control would be nice.

I have the mission speakers in the first post. The denon is rated at 20 Watt - 6 Ohm - at 1 kHz - THD 10% - 2 channels and drives the speakers well enough so the A-100 should do just fine with these. I'll likely upgrade the speakers to the airmotiv B1 next month and see no reason why the A-100 would not work, especially since I will not be putting high demand (high volume) on it.

Just wanted you to know that the Emotiva DC-1 and powered Airmotiv monitors is the way to go right from the bat if you can afford it.

I have the combo of Big Ego DAC and BasX A-100 on my desk, driving headphones and speakers alternately, and this is an excellent setup even from an objective non-biased perspective. Just use an adapter cord between the 3.5mm output of the Big Ego and the RCA inputs of the A-100 and you're good to go.
The A-100 is a superb combination with my headphones, which are Beyerdynamic DT770 250 ohm. I have all the drive I could want, and the headphone output is super-clean - the noise floor is well below the threshold of audibility.

Just wanted you to know that the Emotiva DC-1 and powered Airmotiv monitors is the way to go right from the bat if you can afford it. To me, it's not a matter of affordability but rather my needs/requirements. I am sure the DC-1 is excellent but I do not need what the DC-1 offers for this particular application. Below is where the A-100 and Little Ego will be used. I do intend to get the Airmotiv B1's to replace those speakers. My other listening area uses Salk supercharged song towers, XMC-1, odyssey power amps, and modded squeezebox touch.

This is my desk and the DC-1, SP-1 and two Airmotiv 5 S powered monitors that are the same size as the Airmotiv B1. There is 100 watts RMS in each of the Airmotiv powered monitors and 50 watts RMS per channel in the A-100.The Airmotiv powered monitors have separate amplification for each driver of 50 watts each. This allows for active crossovers. Active crossovers need to be done right to perform there best and these are done very well and perform better than a passive crossover. Did you consider this ? Please explain what you mean. How does the DC-1 and powered monitors not meet your "needs/requirements" ?

Previously I must have read the "packaged" size instead of actual size and thought they were too big. Oops. In any case A100+Lego vs DC1+5s I keep $400 in my pocket (to put at new TV[KS8000]) and dont need to run power cables from the speakers. At the end of the day the DC1+5S are probably better, but are well beyond what I need.

Not the DC-1 and B1. The DC-1 and powered monitors. The DC-1 does not need and amplifier to be used with Active Powered Monitors. Somehow you've tricked yourself into believing it is too much. It is not. Trust me. You have 30 days to return your current purchase.

I used the A-100 and B1 size bookshelf speakers for two years. It sounded very good. I received a large improvement with the DC-1 and Airmotiv powered monitors. Both are good systems when it comes down to it.
The headphone amp in the new BasX A-100 is a big plus over the DC-1 headphone amp to drive power hungry headphones like Sennheisers , Beyerdynamic and HiFiMAN Planar.

If I had the available space I would be picking up the new Klipsch Sixes powered monitors. They look amazing and from the early feedback in the Klipsch forum they seem to be stellar performers! www.klipsch.com/products/the-sixes

Any Fans of Audio Engine? Heard 'em all at the show years ago and they are really nice. A friend has the A5s on his patio and they are very nice even in a space with few reflective surfaces. Link is to the Powered Speaker page on their site. For a nearfield system? Nice. audioengineusa.com/Store/Powered-Speaker-Systems

There could be the possibility of replacing my DacMagic XS unit with the Little Ego and getting a DC1 along with B1 (A100+DC1+B1). I currently use IEMs, not sure if I want full cans or another set of IEMs...to be used with Little Ego at work.

The B1 speakers are now in place. This has turned out to be a nice stereo for my office/computer room.

Your new system is a DacMagic XS , A-100 and a pair of B1's from your PC ? Are you building two systems by getting a Little Ego and a DC-1 ? You should get some Sennheiser HD 600 Open Back Professional Headphones. Buy used, one of the Amazon Warehousedeals. They are actually new and come packed as new for the lowest price you can get on these. They will blow your mind plugged into your BasX A-100 headphone amp ! The HD 600 or 650 have been voted best sounding headphone for 17 years and the standard by which modern headphones are measured. www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Open-Back-Professional-Headphone/dp/B00004SY4H
