Do you use different subs for different uses/applications ie;
HT vs Stereo? How many for each use? Ported or not?
Curious as I see so many different combinations.
Tell us about your use of subs.
Im using a small matched pair of 350 watts rms Klipsch 308's single 8" powered and two passive 8" for my two channel tubed system and a set of PSA XV 15se for HT

For tv watching I have the Yamaha in 11 channel stereo. That activates the SVS-SB12-NDS and all 5 speakers in zone 1 and the pair for zone II. By arraigning the two subs as front and back and not stereo or mono mode the big sub is only active for surround modes. The main HT sub (Elemental Designs A5-350, 15") only gets kicked on when I'm watching a movie - the SVS is used as well. For most music I use pure direct which doesn't use a sub since no processing is happening. That delivers full range audio to the song towers. I still can't get over how well the Yamaha sounds in pure direct mode. It doesn't hurt that I've added a Bob Latino ST-120 amp to the mix to drive the song towers. Amazing speakers - and amp!
Sub use? I hardly use them these days.

Single, 17", 4 ohms, 140 litre enclosure, dual ports, tuned for 15hz ,powered by an XPA-100, 400 watts Class AB. Best sub I have ever had in ~30 years of running subs.
Cheers Gary

I'm using only one sub for both utilities, SVS PB2-plus. I always found this beast for HT smooth and controlled enough for listening stereo music. Perfectly blended for music and monsterly punchy for movie, best of both world, since 2004 I never regretted this purchase.

Subs for two channel stereo are optional. I've been utilising subs for 2.1 stereo music for decades, to get the same frequency coverage from a pair of speakers (no sub) would cost many times what a quality pair of speakers plus a sub costs. Not to mention the space that they would take up. Cheers Gary

Sig, Needed some meatier WUB WUBS to supplement my yib yibs, ya digg
Silliness aside, The miniDSP was god tier for my setup, kinda needed it though for the bass shakers. Don't disregard shakers they're awesome, Found myself listening to music I wasn't even interested in before I got them e.g. slow bass heavy songs, Feels good mang.

I use my 10" Velodyne for both music and movies. And I rarely change the settings on the sub. My wife's daughter (20), is home for the summer - and isn't working or very social, so I currently cannot exercise my equipment very often. It's been a bit over a month and I am beginning to feel the absence of truly enjoying reference level music that I have spent good $ on to enjoy. It is not an ideal situation right now. Won't last forever though, and I look forward to the freedom that will let me crank the volume til I can feel it again.
Headphones are like a tasty non - alcoholic beer. They are ok in a pinch, but don't do true moving-your-clothes percussion any justice.

Subwoofers are the rage like never before with all the Home Theater 🎭 out there, but many 2 channel fans don't realize how close they are to true nirvana if only they would incorporate a sub. Into the mix. Bill

"Tell us about your use of subs." Velodyne HGS 18 Use it in my 5.1 for EVERYTHING since 2001. The plate amp. failed in 2009 and got a replacement directly from the West Coast factory....so far so good. 1250 watts class D 3000 watts peak. In the middle of watching (or I should say listening) to JURASSIC WORLD in 3D........after all these years, still getting the job done! Bill

Those are very old articles and I remember the first one with the architectural subwoofer. At the very bottom of the article is one of the reviewers test discs: "Time Warp" conducted by Eric Kunzel. That one is now 33 years old. I brought my copy of that to a high end shop to demo. some speakers in 1988. I'll never forget the look on the sales guys face when he saw I had that disc with me. "Oh God.......I HATE that DISC..."he said breathlessly, and for good reason. He feared one of his over exuberant customers would send the voice coils of his demo speakers into the middle of the room with it. Bill

What can I say....he's a very old article writer.
Time Warp is still a pretty awesome demo disc. Has a WARNING on the label about playing it back too loudly and the damage it could cause to just about anything in the house. 33 years...and still kicking it!

Thank you for the tip.....I'll get a copy. Good to hear from you and others that still enjoy 3D also....I thought I lost 3D for the second time (false alarm) but, unplugging (resetting) the monitor took care of that. Early on, the Bluetooth module in the set failed, (under warranty thankfully) and they came out and replaced it for me. Amazing when you pull the back off these new flats and see a whole lot of nothing inside. No more jungle like the old CRT days. Bill
