At that price point there is no better speakers than others, just different flavors. Audition is highly recommended

My set up includes/will include: XSP-1 ordered, (2) XPA - 2 bridged amps, ERC - 1 disc player, Music Hall usb-1 table, Denon 4306 for digital input, Rythmik FVS-15 sub.
I'm running a pair of JBL s412p towers that were a budget buy when I started with just the Denon but am ready to upgrade to take full advantage of my new setup. I'm looking for feedback from those who run or have ran towers in the sub $5k range in a 2.1 music setup. Any advice offered will be appreciated!
P.S - I know this is a vague question and that ultimately my ears will be the final judge but like hearing what others have had success or failure with. I have enjoyed my JBL's but with each new addition I seem to get a better product so I realize there are improvements to be made.
Buy yourself a pair of Phase Technology 9.5towers and never look back. These best a number of speakers in their price range and have a sound that I think you'll enjoy.

I got a couple Salk HT2-TL speakers several years back and am still loving them. Cost back then was a little over $4k.

If you think the JBLs are too forward or strident, the Klipsch suggestion will be more so. For around $5K I'd consider Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand Symphony Edition (or Beethovens if you can stretch to 7K) or if you want to go into much better imaging try a set of Gallo Reference 3.5 which can be had for right at your price point (they sound really great.) And since we are here at Emotiva it bears suggesting to check out their new Airmotive T1. For $5K you could get a pair of those and some new electronics too. I can't say enough about my hayden grands. Based on owning those, for 5k I'd be looking at vienna towers.

Whatever you decide don't purchase speakers blindly. Find a dealer where you can listen to a few models. There are two dozen great brands. Find one for your taste.

Best $5K speaker? This answer depends on lots of things including: How large is your room? How loudly do you listen? Are you going for stereo sound or something that can also be used in a movie system? How far from the rear wall is it feasible to put your speakers? Is the room symmetrical from right to left? Are you using room treatment to dampen echoes? Will the new speakers be used alone or with subwoofers? Mr. DYohn's question was also a most excellent one - What did you like most about your JBLs? What did you like least? Buying speakers in advance of knowing these answers is like "fire, aim, ready."

Love these speaker threads... Kinda like telling someone what their favorite ice cream flavor will be.

There is a certain sharpness and lack of detail I'm hearing from the JBLs especially when I turn the volume up where I tend to listen. I think I'm looking for something more mellow but more detailed. I have the sub and would consider adding another if needed. I listened to some Goldenear 3+ recently which sounded much better but weaker on bass as they didn't have a sub to compliment them. The sales guy said that the ribbon tweeters were a big reason they sounded better? I haven't listened to anything other than the Goldenears so only know that there are obviously a huge number of options to upgrade.
