I'm going to be a broken record and recommend Roon. It's easy, elegant and powerful.
Sure, it costs money but good software, like good hardware, takes people and resources to produce - iTunes and other apps have spoiled us by being free (not necessarily a negative).

Emotiva is not making a unit. Move on. I would have bought it years ago. But it would make a killer partner to the DC-1 They can call it the PC-1. Or built it in the EC3 chassis with ripping capabilities. (I know pipe dreams)

so, I see folks saying to use a PC as a server and send the data to something else like a MR and then onto a DAC. The main reason is the MR's audiophile sound quality vs. a PC and its noise. but...if it originates on a PC, how does the MR fix the noise the PC creates? why not PC to DAC directly?
This is not a rhetorical question. I am serious.

more music and better versatility. I don't know yet, I jumped in with both feet and don't know how to swim in the PC world. So, I have not heard a microrendu, but I have used a PC to feed a DAC. The single biggest issue I have had is how to control it and finding a great interface. I find the JRiver and Tidal interfaces sufficient, but controlling them from my couch is a bigger challenge. I can start my projector and use a wireless keyboard, but this is hard to do...looking way forward to a distant screen and typing and mousing is not easy. I continue to look for better solutions. My thread about Controlling a PC from an Android or Surface detail that. Having only looked at the microrendu on a surface level, I have no idea what the interface and control options are. If I were you, I would study that first. if you love the sound but hate the interface/control...you won't like it. I would also consider a mini-PC or "NUC" system with a Windows 10 Pro OS if I were starting from scratch. You can get these for low prices and use native Windows Remote Desktop to control it from your laptop (assuming you are a Windows guy...if you are Apple based, I am of no help). Some people fret over the "ordinary components" or noise floor of a low end PC solution. My best sound has come from a bottom dollar Dell PC to a great DAC...so, I smell bovine excrement on the high end PC argument. Mark Have you tried jrivers gizmo?

I have considered the microRendu but it is more expensive than my current DAC.

Ok so here I am today. I'm drunk and waiting for my Sonic transporter to finish my all usb system. I've learned alot and have so much more to learn. It seems in the CA world power supplies are everything. I've never really given it much thought. When does it end?

So here's the skinny of it. I'm running roon on a sonicTransporter, to a microrendu. Then I'm converting the usb signal to a is2 (digital) signal. Basically it's an ddc . To my spring dac. First impressions wonderful, musical, lost in the music. So there you have it. I'm happy and broke....lol
