Having said that, I wouldn't mind a Siri version of Amazon's alexa - an always on tool that could perhaps interface with an apple tv or heck even a PC to display information or similar things. We need an "always on" tool like we need a hole in our head. What's next? The tool can deny your request to play <<insert loud obnoxious music here>> because you had asked someone for an aspirin? We're all humanoids for Pete's sake! Oh, Alexa just asked who Pete is and why we're human for his sake! I have never used wifi before, never had a smart phone and I unplug my Xfininty cable box every night because there is no off switch. And I am not kidding.

It is not because I am paranoid. It is because I like peace and quiet and no problems in my world. Try it if you can.

I run my own email and web servers. Nuffin gets in or out without being authenticated. Wireless is on 2 separate zones. No mixing home versus extracurricular! Maybe my background has something to do wif it, govner! That said, the circle of fire is closing in.., every day!

whyd.com/looks like Apple took some inspiration from this design. Yes, it appears so but let's be clear that Apple's HomePod is "revolutionary" and is poised to completely change the landscape of high fidelity. Yeah, as Tim Cook said, HomePod will blow people away :-)

I honestly don't see Emotiva surviving the HomePod.
I'm definitely selling all my gear ASAP so it's not completely worthless when the HomePod starts shipping.

Why would anyone here be excited about this gadget? If you have a stereo or even a surround set up....which I assume most in the forum do. With so many streaming options, why would you take your actual stereo out of the equation to insert a HomePod? It makes absolutely no sense. I have a Pure i20 ipod dock with toslink out into my XDA-2 and playing through my amp, my speakers, etc. What would be the benefit of one of these gadgets other than ease of moving it from room to room....which in my case I have an audio set up in every room anyways. This is what I don't understand about these gadgets. What am I missing? I have no desire for any of these wireless speakers because they can't compete with my system. I also don't have any desire to talk to a box and ask it to order pizza or socks from Amazon. I don't get it, but maybe more research is warranted.

Agreed...
I'll add stop opening unfamiliar emails and clicking on questionable links. Updating the operating system on your cell phone is easy as well.
It bears repeating, backup your data files. Ask yourself the question, how many old family photos, music files and data are you willing to lose?
For more protection: Periodically update the firmware on your router and all Wi-Fi devices. Consider reading up on how to lockdown your home wireless network by MAC address. Consider using two-factor authentication when offered. Make sure your Internet Service Provider is periodically updating their or your DSL/Cable Modem device.

Does anyone have a HomePod, if so what does it sound like? Cheers Gary Hey Gary: I found these three reviews on youtube... expressing varying degrees of appreciation... "Painfully honest" sounds like an audiophile, but I enjoyed the frustrations and crankiness of Armando (Review #2) the best (Yes, I tend to be "perverse" like that sometimes ). They have not inspired me to buy the unit, at least not yet, and probably not until the release of version 2, (if at all), and for good reasons, in my opinion... Of course, as we always say, YMMV .

Since this is an audio (and video) enthusiast forum, I wouldn't expect a warm response to a product like this. Obviously it is geared towards a market that wants convenience over sound quality. The only place where I could see this or a similar product useful (to me) would be the bathroom, kitchen, or garage. I already have a solution in the garage, my kitchen is close to my main system, and I would not spend that kind of money on a bathroom speaker lol. And yes I know it does more than just music, I have other solutions for that also. But hey, I don't care what other people may like or use.

Here's (yet another) HomePod review: www.rateyoursound.com/apple-homepod-vs-google-home-vs-amazon-echo-vs-sonosPersonally I think that, if you're going to odder a convenience device like this, there should be some good ways to connect it to your GOOD sound system. (But, then, I'm still offended that Apple seems so convinced that lossy compression is "good enough" for all their iTunes customers.)

Thanks guys, I've read the reviews, good and bad, but what I was looking for was a review by an Emotivist. Someone with a bunch of Emotiva gear that I can relate to as a point of reference, not a sound quality comparison, that would be just silly. It's the portability that mostly attracts me, I'd like something that I can more easily move from the garage to the verandah or even take to my mum's place for some background music while we are emptying it out.
Cheers Gary

Question on Homepod and Atmos, hence resurrecting an old thread.
With your ATV 4K, is it possible to add Homepods as height speakers and integrate with your current system to play Dolby Atmos?
I don't think it is, but I thought I would ask....

I don't think it is, but I thought I would ask.... I do not think so, also at my home I notice a slight lag if i'm using Airply 2 and I have music on the homepods and playing through my Apple TV. There is about a .1 second delay between the two sources with the homepods being slightly ahead.

“Pair it with a second HomePod to create an unmatched stereo experience.“
Unmatched by anything?

I don't think it is, but I thought I would ask.... I actually wrote that up as a request to Apple, which is to say you can’t currently do it. I see a place for an TV ‘system’. Currently you can only attach two HomePods to an TV, but why not 3, 5, 7, 9, or 11, all managed by TV or the Home App. I’d use it in my winter condo, have a pair of HomePods now, but the TV is perfect to expand to a complete Atmos system, for many it would be all they need. Apple could sell a lot more HomePods if they added this capability. Maybe tvOS 14 could add this. Edit: Though if you’re asking if only the height speakers would be on TV and the rest on your main system, I’m pretty sure that’s impossible.
