Question on Homepod and Atmos, hence resurrecting an old thread. With your ATV 4K, is it possible to add Homepods as height speakers and integrate with your current system to play Dolby Atmos? I don't think it is, but I thought I would ask.... I actually wrote that up as a request to Apple, which is to say you can’t currently do it. I see a place for an TV ‘system’. Currently you can only attach two HomePods to an TV, but why not 3, 5, 7, 9, or 11, all managed by TV or the Home App. I’d use it in my winter condo, have a pair of HomePods now, but the TV is perfect to expand to a complete Atmos system, for many it would be all they need. Apple could sell a lot more HomePods if they added this capability. Maybe tvOS 14 could add this. Edit: Though if you’re asking if only the height speakers would be on TV and the rest on your main system, I’m pretty sure that’s impossible. I was asking about the Edit part of your response. I've been thinking about adding Atmos to my current 5.1 system, but cutting into the ceiling in my family room has two hurdles, the difficulty of running additional wires, but mainly the WAF factor. I'm hoping to retire in a couple years, buy a brand new house and construct what I want. But that's down the road. In the meantime I've been looking at using upward firing speakers, but I'm not convinced.

Height speakers are a unique challenge, I’m very lucky in the WAF department, mine even helped cutting holes in the ceiling last spring (by vacuuming the drywall dust as I Rotozipped the holes 🙂), and I already had wires in the ceiling from our original home construction 20 years ago. But before I did that I used a very unique reflective technique which worked well, so while not perfect, I’d give the reflective speakers a try, it does help produce a bubble.

More info on the reflective speakers? What did you do? If it was a brand new house, she would not have an issue...she has been good with the rest of my stuff!

Please excuse me for not reading the prior posts as I thought I’d be reading about the AHP and not Atmos, LOL I don’t know how it evolved to this point but I’ll chime in since we’re here already. 😋 If it is at all possible to access the space above the sheet rock I’d highly recommend in ceiling speakers. First reason is that they are better. Reflecting sound IMHO is not the way to go. Time space continuum and all! LOL Second, humans as a species rarely look up, she’ll never notice the speakers except for the improvement to HT experiences. There’s my two cents. Good luck

Good luck Agree....it will be accomplished in the future....I have not read many good things about reflective speakers. I was using this old thread to ask if powered speakers such as the Homepod could be used with Atmos (ATV 4K), to avoid running wires. Apparently that function is not possible. At least not with a current system. You are now caught up.
